RVF 400 won't start proper
hey guys, basically my RVF has been fine lately, starts on button, bit of choke, turn choke off and let it idle for a min while i put helmet and gloves on :) but lately, i put it on choke etc, its fine for a while, then cuts out? then i try start it back up, it'll idle at about 500rpm struggling thats with choke fully on! any slight throttle rev and it cuts out, no chance of it firing up at all without choke
so at first it basically ticks over, then after 2 mins dies, then it wont start up at all, and well im guessing it's fuel related? batter turns over etc, starter motor, just wont stay idle....keeps cutting out, did it yesterday too, checked the fuel tap, and vacuum pipe etc, didnt exactly do anything to it, and it fired up normal, went on a ride, and then well as i said went to get on it today and it's having none of it, so yeah anyone got any ideas? sorry for the life story

Firstly, it might be worth doing some electrical checks on the battery. These bikes are well known for having electrical issues that can show up in all sorts of symptoms.
If the battery checks out ok, it might be fouling the plugs. It would be worth looking at the plugs straight after it's cut out.
After that take a look to see that all carbs are getting fuel. If you have any doubt over the condition of the fuel tap vacuum pipe best to replace it. It's easier to check out issue with fuel and carbs with the carbs off the bike.

yeah, i mean the battery tray, looks like it has water in, which wont help =/ so im hoping it's just the plugs, although it fires up first time always, my best guess is fuelling, like you said tap/pipe replace, and to check the carbs also :) thanks for replying buddy!

Water in the battery tray?!
Check that the rear plug recesses aren't filled with water. They have drain holes but they can block and retain water which will cause issues with spark.

forgot to mention buddy, i mean it sparks fine etc, i think the problem is fuelling or mixture possibly? i put a bolt on exhaust, and well i dunno if thats the problem, so today i changed it back to original exhaust, managed to get it started after a bit of a struggle/bogged down, and well i'm gonna leave it now overnight and see if it'll start in morning, if not, gonna change fuel tap/vaccuum pipe, soak the water up in battery tray, and check plugs, and carbs see if fuel getting to them!
