R&G Crash bungs - seems a bit crap to me!!!

So I have the Non Drill crash bungs on my trackbike, which I got the opportunity to test out at the test day at Three sisters, nothing too severe lost the back coming out of a left hand hairpin, one of only three lefts on the track so basically caught out by a cold tyre.

Not too much damage, crash bung bolt bent as its designed too and wore away the puck that screws into the cup, also just scuffed the tank but I was going to rub that down and re paint it anyway as it has been left with fuel in it for years before I got the bike and so rather than being white it’s a lovely cream beige type colour.

So I ring R&G to get a bolt off them and another puck to replace the broken elements of my kit, and they don’t sell them!!! To repair the crash bung I have to buy a half set from them at a cost of £40 incl delv. Thought that’s a bit crap the half set comes with the spacer and the cup that I don’t need and are probably the bulk of the cost.

Now the bolt can’t be anything too special is it? Anybody got a steer on what type I need, high tensile or grade that I can/need to use.

The puck I’m a bit stuck with I could use my scuffed one but it looks a bit crap but if needs be I can sand it up a bit. Can these be bought from somewhere

Anybody got a cunning way around buying bits that I don’t need?

R&G are for trendy people...get cheap and functional - racesuppliesdirect or SES etc

yeah scored the R&G non drills from ebay for £80 having searced on here was lead to believe that these were the best ones for use on track.

I'll try Race supplies but didnt think they did the pucks for the non cut type bungs??

OK I have this set up and have one bung grazed down and got told the same at the NEC (was cheaper to buy there). Maybe a dumb question who's Kayla and no funnies about a scout leader!!!

I think it was race supplies that borrow my set of non drills to copy so reckon he's your best bet

Probably a better option, is to just get another set of bungs, cheap-like... you already know that they work.

The bolts themselves are marketed as 'de-brittled' so that they bend rather than snap, though I don't know where you'd get some from. If the existing bolts have a number on the head, that's the sort to get. Personally I'd probably fit standard 8.8 metric bolts; they're cheap and easier to drill out (if required) than anything more specialised.

In this case two halves don't make a whole!

All you get in a half set is the cup spacer de brittle bolt and the puck, you still. Red to get the threded centre bar and attachment plates, still you could fabricate these yourself but by the time you've done that doubt you'd be saving much.

Standard 6.8 bolts are the best bet, not 8.8. The 8.8s are too hard and will snap, 6.8 is softer and will bend a lot better without snapping. Whatever you do, don't use stainless bolts. If they bend, the threads will completely lock up and you'll only get them out by destroying the frame.
