Fitting new mudguard brackets

Post by Drunkn Munky »

Whats the trick to fitting these then? I got a brand new set and no matter how hard i try i cant get them to slide over the fork lower, the lowers are powder coated but i brought them like it and although they didnt have brackets fitted im certain they did do as there was some electrical tape fitted which must have been use to stop the old brackets knocking. So anyone got any tips before i remove the powdercoat from the top of the lowers?

Scotchpad rub over then a light coating of grease or Vaseline then a tap with a rubber mallet always seems to work for me mate.

Oh make sure you put them on the the right forks, as it's bloody annoying taking the forks off again and swapping the brackets around! :?

Not that I've done that! Lol

lol yeah like a muppet i removed both brackets from the packets before realising each side is different so had no way of telling what was what, i think i worked it out from some pics in the haynes manual and placing them on the mudguard but if you have any pics of how there fitted it would put my mind at rest :) Does the tappered edge face up or down? and does the circle go on before or after? cheers mate

What ever you do make sure they are not to tight,if you have to force them on they will proably split,
You want a nice interference fit.

The tapered edge faces up mate so the circlip slots into that and the groove.
