hmm, im still not sure on how to bleed the system. i read the haynes manual, but its too confusing :\

does your original master cylinder fit on the rearsets, if it does and its still hooked up swap them over, also if you dont know how to bleed brakes , get somone who knows how to do it , last thing you need is your brakes failing

the rear doesnt even work, because its probably got air in them
. the previous owner fucked it up and i hadnt bothered with it. and my master cylinder doesnt have the right bolts and nuts.. so id rather use this new one.

It's easy. Find a piece of long clear tube that fits really snugly round the bleed nipple. Put the open end into a suitable catchment bottle. Try to position the tube so that it forms a bend, either up or down from the bleed nipple, so that there's always a bit of fluid sitting in it when you open the bleed nipple as this makes it easier to see air bubbles. Then it's just a matter of pumping the brake pedal until you feel some resistance and whilst keeping the brake pedal pressed, open the bleed nipple about a 1/4 turn to let fluid out of the caliper. You should see air bubbles in the fluid. Once the brake pedal reaches the bottom of its stroke, close the bleed nipple and repeat.
Keep an eye on the fluid level in that little reservoir window you have because if it runs dry you'll have to start again. Top it up frequently. Keep going until there's no bubbles in the fluid coming out of the caliper.
This video shows how it's done on a cruiser. They have a separate reservoir like the VFR normally does, but the principle is exactly the same.

Are you trying for a darwin award or something?
The rear brake might just save your life or someone elses in an emergency.
Have a look on youtube for some videos of bleeding motorcycle brakes, it's easy if you have the right tools and patience.
But for everyone elses sake, stop pissing about spraying panels and what not when your riding a bike with 50% of the brakes not working, your a danger to everyone else.

Neo, your talking as if im still spraying my panels... stop asking me to do something when ive already done it and finished it months ago... i dont go fast on this bike so really do not need a rear brake.. the front has all the stopping power and it works fine. the rear does work, but only a little bit, i need to jam the pedal right down for it to actually work.. im guessing because its needing bled and more brake fluid. i will sort it out.

nope not yet, one of my screws on my current rear sets is stripped, so i need to drill that out and re-tap it.
