nc30 still starving after switching to reserve fuel {SOLVED}

Post by juanv »

Hi

Bike drives and sounds 100% but at soon as it starts to starve I switch over to the reserve fuel but the bike then never recovers.... it dies, i will then have to blow into the tank a few times and then if my battery holds she would start back up? Any ideas what could be the problem?

I recently added a filter inbetween the tank and the carbs could this have something to do with it??

Also can someone please confirm where the petrol vacuum pipe fits on to? Is it the nipple that goes down or is it the nipple that goes parralel with the main fuel line?

Fuel tank breather blocked?

It's a common cause of this, it screws onto the tank in the right corner, make sure its not blocked up.

If thats ok then fuel tap diaphram could be split but blowing into tank suggests breather

Check the vacuum pipe to the fuel tap as well.

So I checked the breather pipe for any blockages and no such thing, air is entering the tank fine...

I took the fuel tap off to inspect the diaphram and everything looks good, no cracks or tears....

I checked the vacuum pipe for any blockages and also looking good.....

Eish, the only way I got her to start was to blow into the tank via the breather and that seems the only way to get some petrol in her carbs, the drove fine, wanted to test the fuel reserve again so switched back to mail fuel line and waited for her to starve.....and then went over to reserve.... and SHE DIED AGAIN... its as if there's no "suction" to get the petrol to the carbs.... ANY OTHER IDEAS??

let me just get confirmation on the vacuum pipe... where does the vacuum pipe fit... @1 or @2??

Vacuum to 1. Are the tap filters in the tank clean? Could be clogged up on the reserve pipe

Ok Cool thank you, my vacuum pipe is attached to the right nipple then ..... I cleaned the fuel filters when i checked the diaphram so its not that.....

The more iam thinking about this issue the more iam getting sceptical on the fuel filter i added recently, maybe the extra fuel filter could be the problem, maybe it interferes with the "suction" of the fuel.... I donno... :?: :?: Could it be a problem?

have you or a previous owner done the HRC fuel tap mod?
this can cause these sorts of problems too when you get to low fuel or if you have a fuel pump as the rubber diaphram can get sucked out of place and restrict the flow.

Tank is gravity fed, if you've added a filter the gradient might not be right so you could be stopping the fuel.

Did it only occur after you fit it?

If you unscrew the breather from the tank does it still do it with the breather removed? Can you blow into the tank through the hole where the breather screws into?
