Got a replacement shock on the way and have saw how much of a faff it is to replace (not looking forward to getting the pipes off) so wondered if there were any items that could do with replacement/adjusting while everything is out.

Only one i can think off is greasing the shock linkage. Anything else?

Also does the swingarm need to be dropped in order to get the shock out?

Taking off the wheel really helps buts its a very easy job to do.

No need to remove the pipes to do the shock , get a spate pair of hand and you can just undo the rear subframe and get them to hold it out the way , hour job tops .

Why are you taking the pipes off? You can actually remove the shock with the pipes wheel and fairing still in place believe it or not.

When shock is out clean all the swingarm out with a degreaser and get it nice and clean then clean tri link and dog bone and grease them up.

Was only going to take pipes off as i read a post a while ago saying it made life a lot easier, but if its bearable with them in then thats fine by me. Thanks for the info guys.

I did it with pipes on and wheel in. A bit fiddly but no problem. Only issue was torquing up the bottom shock mount due to access but it can be done. I stripped and re greased all the linkage bearings and gave the swing arm a good clean and corrosion treatment while i had access.

Plug both holes on the swinger (where the shock goes through) with some expanding foam, to stop any sand/grit getting to the chain adjuster.
When the mind is relaxed, the body will go faster! 8-)

I have a std NC30, other than Ohlins shock.
Remove the rear bodywork and tank
remove the rear wheel, it's easier to use an Abba stand if possible
remove the RHS foot peg/carrier and heat shield
once you've undone all the bolts, lift the swingarm right up (care not to stretch the brake line at extreme of travel) and the shock will come out the bottom

I've had mine out twice now, no need to remove any of the subframe bolts, battery or any part of the exhaust
As mentioned filling the arm with expanding foam is a good idea, as is giving the linkage a good clean and also remove the rear hub assembly if you have sockets big enough and give it a good clean. As mentioned grit gets in through perviously menioned areas and can jam the rear eccentric hub.

Shock out shouldn't take you more than an hour to get out

I meant to do a 'how to' guide last time I had mine out but the reassembly was over too quick!
