yeah id like to know this also, i replaced mine after i powder coated my frame, i used some needle types but they were from pyramid , at the time i thought they were were ok but have heard nothing but shite about them since ive fitted them , thats always the way though innit , until you cough up cash and fit them, then a million people say i wouldnt use those , fookin typical, however they were well inspected and seemed fine , were well packed with grease and seem to be smooth with no unwanted play as yet , but after the constant slagging off of pyramid parts bearings i wont be holding my breath for how long they last

I've used Pyramid tapered rollers for headstock bearings for a few years now. As long as they are installed CORRECTLY they're fine. That's where half the problem lies in this negative feedback, people (even professional garages) haven't got a fucking clue how to fit bearings properly.

I had a bike in just before Christmas. CMC had replaced the headstock bearings about three weeks previous and they were fucked. Know why? Because they hadn't replaced the cup in the headstock, they'd just fitted the taper cage into the old one. And they'd charged him almost £250 to do the job!
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

well thats a slight relief , i know mine were fitted correct as i took my time and installed the races in the frame while it was bare , it was the first thing i did after coating and before sitting it on the engine, i can imagine its a pain in the ass doing the underside otherwise

Never heard of needle bearings in the headstock - you sure you don't mean taper roller vs a ball race?
Both should be fine if well greased & correctly fitted.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but understood that Pyramid headstock bearings are not good quality wise...does this also count for their dust & oil caps for the front forks... I have just fitted 2 sets of them to my 2 sets of RVF forks. Compared to the genuine RVF parts these Pyramids are more tight mounted with less movement.

id say OEM ones too, never liked the roller bearings in the headstock. used them in a few bikes and iv always thought it makes the steering turn in too quick personly. just my 2p

when i did mine on the vfr i took the old ones apart and cleaned them up, looked and felt new after years.... so kept them in lol
