Signal / Indicator Delay
Hi guys,
Bit of a weird one, I don't think it's always been like it, so I thought I'd ask:
Is there any reason why there should be a delay between signalling left or right and the actual indicators starting to flash?
My bike ('92 NC30) seems to take around 2 or 3 seconds to start flashing after I move the switch. I dont think it was always like this.
Any help would be good.
Ta.

Re: Signal / Indicator Delay
Is that an easy job?
I don't want to ruin it as I guess it's not easy to get a replacement!

Re: Signal / Indicator Delay
This is a common issue with nc30 switchgear.
It's a fairly straightforward job to open it up, dismantle and clean. I use electrical contact cleaner but most lube sprays will work. Take your time and clean each part properly before reassembling.

Re: Signal / Indicator Delay
Gonna start looking at it this weekend hopefully.
Something that I've noticed is that the flasher relay starts to click straight away as soon as the signals are switched on. It will click for maybe 4 or 5 times at double speed, then the indicators will come on and it goes back to normal speed.
Could it be the relay?

Re: Signal / Indicator Delay
I had the exact same problem and went for the complicated answer, a faulty relay. I bought the relay but problem was still there.
As mark says, I will bet it is crud in the switchgear. Clean it out with loads of brake or carb cleaner and cotton buds of you have them

Re: Signal / Indicator Delay
Update!
Thanks guys.
Your advice worked a treat. Was a little fiddly as I only had the slack of the cable to work on so did the job under the screen!
Was a little daunting looking inside, not having a clue how it worked, but figured it out thanks to the cotton bud tip.
I know have non lazy indicators! (I also have a main beam and dip switch that will come back out too, as I tackled that while I was in there.)
Thanks again.

Update 2!
The lazy indicators are back. I guess I didn't do a good enough job.
I haven't touched the bike all week, went back to it yesterday and it's doing it again. Another strip and clean I think, then we'll see what we get.

Re: Signal / Indicator Delay
Contact cleaner on the brass contacts (or some parrafin / isproply alcohol / meths.)
Anything with good cleaning power.
Inspect the brass contacts too, perhaps they are very worn.. 99% of the time it's just some dirty and grime
