NC30 - crankcase sealant

What sealant is used when assembling the crankcases on an NC30 engine? I'm looking for the same/similar stuff that would have been used at the factory, but I don't know what it is called! Anyone know?

Ah - found it! Seems Hondabond 4 or Yamabond 4 is the stuff!

EDIT: Also a lot of people are recommending threebond 1211

Good old "Indian Head" shellac.
Not nearly as messy as silicone based stuff and it won't clog oil ways.
The built engine I split had been sealed with it so I used it again.

The Hondabond or Yamabond are both good... don't apply it too thick and allow one minute or so before assembling until the sealant has a light 'skin' before assembling and you shouldn't have any problems.

Remember it spreads when compressed to if you put it on nice and thick and you'll end up with loads inside the engine.

I used Threebond 1194 1104 to put my KR1 cases and gearbox cases together. Sticks and seals pretty good.

Ok, I finally did this over the weekend. I used Threebond 1211 in the end which seemed to get a lot of recommendations.

Only one question:- Which mating surfaces have people been using the sealant on? I had a look at pics of the cases I took when I first separated them and the OE sealant is only on the external mating surfaces, so I just did the same. However, other people seem to do all of the case mating surfaces except next to the bearing shells?

I've only ever done externals on crankcases. No real need to seal every mating surface on the bottom end.
