Chinese fairing sets

Post by skungheeeney »

Hi Guys
The fairing on my Baby blade is in need of repair and paint but the local bandits want £800+ to do the job, so I'm thinking of an after market set, I'm not really bothered about quality as it's for riding not show, if any of you guys have bought one I just want abit of info, will it arrive, who to buy from, any problems with fixings, China or Hong Kong, any help would be great.

Ive just had one delivered for my NC29, due to an operation on my eye I am having to take my time fitting it, Quality is pretty good , however I am in the process of reinforcing the mounting lugs just to be on the safe side , I had NO import tax to pay and it all arrived with no problem order to delivery was approx a month as he painted it after it was ordered , his coms were spot on he even sent pictures as it was being painted , in fact the whole deal has been very good , remains to be seen how it performs when on the road , mines in minolta colours and it is looking good , bit of fettling has been needed ,all holes drilled but need slight opening up, Have a look at my posting on GREY BIKE, If you are interested Pm me and I'll give you his email , If you want any more info let me know , or even if you are close enough to me you are welcome to have a good look at it I,m 20 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne .
For around £280 deliverded can you go wrong? by the way mines from Hong kong

I was in exactly the same situation. I figured in the end I wouldnt be happy with the chinese/HK versions.

They retail for £300 + the £100 to respray my tank. Get stung for import tax and you can add another £100 on.

In the end I sourced all the original panels I needed and repaired them using plastech.

Had a quote from a local garage for £500 to repaint and lacquer the whole lot.

They sprayed them up then I collected them and left them for two weeks in my loft before fitting the decals which I bought from image works for £120.

Took them back down the spray shop and they lacquered them again.

The panels look really good and they fit 100% as they are the real deal, took me 30mins to put the whole lot back on.

In the end I now wish I had gone for a less graphic heavy bike ( Type 8 ) and gone for the Type 6 and just stuck the decals on top of the lacquer - the panels were lacquered then cut back to take more lacquer after the decals were in place. The type 6 decals would have been cheaper - there is half the amount of decals. I also wouldnt have to have taken the panels back to be re-lacquerd which was £100 ( included in the £500 ). I didn't realise the decals were so damn sticky!

So maybe the TYPE 6 with the decals on top would be around £450. Plus the cost of the fairings.

You live and learn I suppose. But overall Im happy and the cost was spread over several months.

Cheers for that nice comment - still quite a few more things to do.

Forks need a repaint/lacquer and perhaps have the rear seat sub frame powder coated. Lots of little things like the left mirror faces down and cant move up and the rear lights need rewiring ( again ) .

Doesnt help that bolts keep falling off, Im now glueing them them all on.

Durka passed on some good advice in this post:-

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=32837

With more time I probably would have cut the decals to be more like the originals ( I only cut the front nose ones ) but I was getting tired of the bits lying around the house and having two small children running about doesnt help with the nerves, they kept picking them up. I was convinced I kept hearing cracking noises as they jumped around upstairs.

Its been a good experience all in all.

Cant comment on the chinese ones but I dont think I would have been happy. I would like to see a set - up close and fitted.

Hey Gullarm your bike looks great, good to see it finished. Yep you do get worried as there is so much vinyl but the end result speaks for its self. Welcome to the club.. :peace:

If you mirror is of the Chinese variety I found my left never worked either, eventually snapping off, go for oem they are not too expensive, or wern't.
