Ticking noise
Got a odd ticking sound which seems to be coming from the front head, maybe the rear too but if it is its being drowned out by the exhaust. Thought it was valve clearences at first so did those, none were far out but it made no difference anyway.
Now the strange thing is it doesnt do it when the choke is on but does when its off, could it running lean and causing it to ping? Bike spec as follows,
Half system
122F/122R mains UK carbs
Pilots 2.25
Pattern (i think) air filter

Re: Ticking noise
Use a long handled screwdriver and put the handle into your ear use it as a stethascope will also help if you use ear plugs drown out the high frequencys that make you miss the normal low ones
I have moulded ear plugs which are great to drown out a very loud tyga when work on or around a runnin engine
Failing that you neighbours with any al quieda members :D

Sit up straight when you're riding, you are to close to your rolex.

Re: Ticking noise
nah - it will be the choke arm on carbs - when some tension on it from the cable it is fine, but when the cable is slack the arm can rattle..
Hows that?

Re: Ticking noise
isn't this just the normal ticking associated with every NC30?

Sorry Mr T, I can't help with the diagnosis; though CMSMJ1's suggestion makes some sense!

Re: Ticking noise
my track nc has developed an intermitent ticking after flooding with a possible sticking float valve and fuckin useless hrc tap mod which i see rick advises against in his practical sportsbikes article recently
read article after event bollox.. i have looked at rear cams and look ok still to wip carbs off and check front and valve clearences but oil was badly contaminated with petrol absolutely stinking when drained .

Re: Ticking noise
Mine's always ticked like a trooper, I just assumed it was the norm. Although I don't have the balls to do my valve clearances...
