Rev gauge not going past 4000rpm

right i have just got back from looking at a 400 NC30 which im pleased to say i will be picking up saturday everything is mechanicaly and cosmeticly fine and in good condition , with all paperwork receipts mot history etc , genuinly the only fault with the bike is no matter how much you rev it the needle will not go above 4000rpm , is this a common problem and what could it be ?

could it be clocks or something simple like a frayed cable ? also is it an easy fix

nah speedo works and didnt check cdi i shall check it once i go to collect the bike on saturday ive been reading online apparently the tacho is connect to the 2nd rear coil pack so could be a broken loose connection there

No, the tacho is connected to the cdi. id say your tacho is on its way out if its revving freely

it revs to 4000rpm then just stops but the power and acceleration is still there , does this mean changing the clocks then ?

Then its not revving freely, its basically in limp home mode. Good news is your tacho is fine but you need to get it out of limp home mode, i cant remember how its done on the 30 but someone will be along soon that does

ahh , well the seller said he will ask the garage whats up , i was hoping i could still ride the bike just not rev too hard

Thinking about it the limp home mode kicks it at around 5000rpm, have you actually witnessed the bike with this problem or are you just taking the sellers word for it? I dont think id wanna be riding a bike that doesnt rev 100 miles, hope it was cheap :)
