Replacing rear shock 76gka with K ser Gsxr shock and spring

Post by Tonyj »

I read a post here somewhere that you can fit a shock and spring from a K series bike, apologies but I now cant find the post :? , and that some work was required to get it to fit ( shaving i seem to remember). do i need the shock, spring and linkages or will the linkages from the GK76a fit with the later shock?

There was also a post which a member had fitted a K8 shock combo with no mods but same question applies - do you use the original linkages or would the newer linkages be required?

Thanks in advance for all assistance from you guys..

Both of my gk76'a have K series rear shocks. I Fitted one to my old road bike, its an easy swap. You can use the gk76a linkages, you will see where you have to grind a little away.

Just looking for some advice guys.

Would you get the standard shock rebuilt for £100 or just swap for a k series shock....surely the original shock would be the one to go for, no?

I enquired about getting the old shock rebuilt and it cost alot more then the price of a K series shock.

Ok put cost aside....what would you do?

I've actually got a k4 rear shock that I could put on but want to know what the BETTER option is.
Seen a place on ebay where they rebuild, regas etc. for £100
Hang on...here's a link;

So, if cost was NO issue, what route would you take and why, the rebuilt original shock that it was originally designed for, or the k4 shock?

The K6/K7 GSXR 600 rear shock is a straight swap. No need to mess around filling anything. bit fiddly to fit mind,

Mine only cost me £30 of e-bay, they normally go for £80, keep yr eyes out for bargins,

Would you rather have a 21 year old shock or a 6 year old shock? :P

Hi Pete thanks for the link.

Lads as always very helpful, For me its a no brainer, 4 year old shock and a few hours graft and you are right there are bargains to be had on the bay. It will be nice to get rid of the 20 yr old rusty thing thats on there now.

Dunno bout the rest of you but Im constantly flickin between here and ebay lol ;)

Sorry to keep dragging this up but if the standard shock was rebuilt, would it not become a new shock!

The easy option for me is to stick the K4 shock in that I already have but wanted to know whats best.
Seems you guys are sticking to your guns and say the k4 option is best....

Hi Armi, I see where your coming from and reckon theres pros and cons for both options as the rebuilt shock from the GK76a is like a new shock and maybe a new spring or newly powdercoated could have cost implications. On the other hand the replacement k8/k4 shock from the 600 gixer is after all a 4 yr old shock but easy to source/fit and maybe lends itself to bragging rights as its from the 600 etc ;)

As for which is the right choice for the GK76a, for me personally its down to time and effort saving really and although I see there are benefits using both methods Ill probably go down the later shock option :peace:
