Lost on what to do with my Engine and everything. Help.

Post by tescos » Thu Feb 16, 2012 2:56 pm

Back with more problems.
NC29
Juddering, exactly the same if you are going any speed but with minimum throttle movement, you are moving the throttle to open and close very fast. It does this all the time any gear at 2300RPM, and about 3900RPM.

This has happened since I have put on brand new SS Downpipes, gaskets replaced.

The person I bought the bike off in October last year, said it would need rebalancing, I have not done this yet. Could this be my problem?

I went to a garage today and they said it might be the HT Leads causing a weak spark or sparking in the wrong place, and that I should reaplace my HT leads first.

I regapped and cleaned my spark plugs (before putting the SS Exhaust on) and it worked fine.

Should I buy new spark plugs to just be sure?
Where do I get HT leads? Just buy a used pair off Ebay, or buy new leads that needs ends on them?

Shall I just rebalance the carburettors my self? Thinking of buying this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carburettor-C ... 2ebaebf94e

Finally, if I'm in first or second gear it seems that the power band likes to start and stop with power all up untill 8,000RPM where all hell is unleashed and it goes like a rocket., It was never like this when I first got it, it used to be nice and quiet untill 8,000~ but now it just doesn't know wheter it wants to go or not.

Does anyone live near Newcastle or Durham/ Darlington/ North Yorkshire?

I am sick of having these problems and just wish someone with alot of expertise knew what I was dealing with!

Thank you

Sounds like it might be the exhaust causing the issues if its only been happening since you fitted it. There was on ebay a few years ago, an exhaust design that wasnt good for the bikes. it was 4 into , or 4 into 2 into one or something like that.

Compare you new exhaust to your (i presume standard) old exhaust and see if the configuration is different.

W hat colour are the spark plugs? A new exhaust will flow better as it wont be blocked up with carbon and other crap so will affect the jetting. Do you know if its running standard air filter or a k&n?
I had a a 4 into one on an nc29 a few years back , which ran great once i'd fitted a dyno jet kit.
Check that the air screws are all set to the same (standard) settings. If its taking off after 8k probably your up to 1/4 throttle jetting is out so air screws is probably the place to start.
When i got mine off to clean them when i got the bike before christmas they were all different! 8-)

Also ht lead can be bought in lengths from any bike shop, just cut it to the length you need and screw it into the coil and plug cap.

Those old Delkevic pipes weren't bad because they were 4-1, they were just poorly made at the collector.

Have you still got your original pipes? If so put them on and see if you get the same, this will give a clearer idea of the problem. I know I have had similar problems with a flat spot around 2000rpm, due to a stainless 4-2-1 exhaust I bought a few years ago from Sandy Bike Spares on ebay. I tried cleaning carbs, rejetting and all the usual stuff but alas it never cleared fully. Now I just ride around it, its only a pain if im in that spot, usually pulling away or slow corners and roundabouts where I have tom do some clutch slipping to avoid it. Wish I had kept my oem ones now.. thought I was making the bike better getting stainless, yeah..

I see your fall in the snow on youtube, unlucky.. I nearly got blew off the road this morning at 6am, so close, I ended up on the hard shoulder, couldnt do much about it, wind gusts were at least 50mph and caught me side on, just near Coxhoe, on the A1m heading south to Darlington. Which brings me to your location, You appear to live in the north, I live in Sunderland and go to the Washington Wetlands Bikers meet, it will be on shortly, usually March and meets on a Sunday or Wednesday nights, pop over if your not that far away.

I do still have them yes, the oem pipes.

I noticed before i put the stainless ones on, that at 4 outlets it seems there there is a ridge of steel/weld or something similar, and comparing it to my old pipes were just flat/thinner.

They are 4-2-1.

Thats crazy, I've been blown into the hard shoulder on my Yamaha SR125 last year!

I travel up to Newcastle from Darlington every Monday and come back every Thursday

I will be buying a few things next week to see what happens, balancer first, new headlight, speedo light, I will take out my plugs and have another test /look, and update as appropiate!

Going to test my battery too with my new charger... cant wait.
