Combat the cold?

Hi 400GB, I'm still alive but absent due to Uni lately!

Quick tip, I forgot to do my anti-freeze at xmas and haven't gave it a thought, but now it's bloody snowing again. Well in Nottingham it's going to be -6 on tuesday, I have no idea how much anti-freeze is in my bike and I'm 150 miles away from it. Only the right side is accessible:



Is there a way for my dad to do anything to combat the cold without removing fairings. He had a motorbike accident and only has the one arm, so dragging her out and getting the fairings off ain't happening. Is it possible to unscrew the rad cap without removing the inspection panel? I suppose I could get him to remove the upper cowling as that's easy.

Failing that, is there a right hand hose low down somewhere I could get him to stick a knife through to drain it? I'd obviously much rather not do this as if there's anti freeze in it, it's going to piss all over my fairings...

I can't remember the NC30 cooling system, but would it be possible to get at the rad cap on the right, remove it and (if it's low) top up with a few drops of anti-freeze?

Just realised from the pic the bike is the other way round, thought it was facing the other way.

Rad cap is on the right IIRC so anything can be done?

Lower left hand panel has a big vent where the lower rad hose is, get a big stanley blade in there im sure geoff or someone will sort you a hose for a pint dan,

If it's full of anti-freeze won't it damage my paint/plastics?

How much you reckon that hose'd be to replace, also will a knife through it let all the water drain out the block?

You can get to the coolant drain hole easily from that side....

Just undo it, pop the rad cap off (easily acessible even though its on the other side) and the collant will flow out.

Where's the coolant drain hole? Anyone got a pic of it with the fairings on?

on the water pump - the bolt under the hold at 6 O'clock - it will dribble out and when you remove the top rad cap - it will piss on your dad's feet...

Most owners leave 50/50 antifreeze mix in all year round [not track bikes] so unlikely plain water is in the system.

Get the bike covered over with a few blankets and check the colour of the coolant. Should be green not clear and feel slippery.

The cap is on the right hand side under the black plastic infill, easy to spot on the top of the top rad.
