removing restrictor kit ? nc35
hi there, i want to remove the restrictor kit on my rvf400 just wondering is there a ebook somewhere including lots of pictures ?

No pictures, but straightforward really.
Take off the seat, tank and side-panels (just the upper ones).
Remove the air-box lid, air filter and carb tray.
Remove the choke cable and take the idle adjuster from its housing.
Slacken the 4 clamps that hold the carbs on then remove the carbs.
You can leave the throttle cables in situ as you'll be able to lift out the 4 washers that are sitting in the carb rubbers out from there then just do everything else in reverse of the above.

lift the seat unit to get to the bolt to undo that tank,
take the tank off
take the lil mid fairings off as the front rubber will be a bugger to get too otherwise
airbox off and just undo the top clamp bolt on each of the rubbers between the carb and engine
the carbs will then lift off and you can get your hand in and get the washers out without having to remove and cables
then do the process in reverse to put it back together,
its a good idea to bung the carb trumpets (velocity stacks
) so nothing can fall down them (just dont forget to take said bungs out before you put the airbox and tank back on and start the engine

Dumb question from someone that doesn't know alot about these restrictors you have over there. Don't you have to make jetting changes when adding and removing the restrictors?

i didnt but then i think my bike was set up previously with them in and then the guy took them out as unrestricted mine had a big flat spot at 5-8k and now it rev's perfectly (thats half the reason im not taking mine out, or thats what i tell my m8's)

The restrictors are just washers that go into the air intakes on the carbs to limit the airflow / hp of the engine. It would need to be re-jetted to run properly but the law only calls for the limitation not the correct setting up of the bike so many people don't do this.RVFHooligan wrote:Dumb question from someone that doesn't know alot about these restrictors you have over there. The reason for the restriction is that..
In the UK if you are between 17 - 21 and take your full motorbike test (a 125cc motorcycle) you can only ride a bike with upto 33bhp for the first 2 years after passing your test, afterwhich time passes you can ride anything.
If you are 21+ you can take the test on a bigger bike, usually a 500cc and ride anything straight away.
It's mainly to encourage younger riders to develop better skills before going out and buying some 175bhp monster bike.

Is the law changing on how you get your full license? I dont really know what the new law is.

But the test is different. There will be new specific test centres throught the uk where all manouvers are carried out off public roads.

People are divided on weather it is difficult. I'd say it was easier since you do the manovers off-road and no longer have to worry about traffic interrupting your turns.
Still in the UK the bike test is very easy compared to stricter countries.
licence classes
Moped Licence (16+) Pass your test on a 50cc, you are limited to a 50cc, can carry a passanger too but can't go on motorways!
Light Motorcyle Licence (17+) Pass your test on >50cc but less <=125cc, no longer need L plates, can carry passangers, can go on Motorways too I believe, albeit slowly! Restricted to engine size of max 125cc and power of less than 14.6bhp
Full motorcyle licence (17+) Pass test on a 125cc machine, are then allowed to ride a bike less than 33bhp for 2 years, then any machine afterwards, no L plates, Passnagers, Motorway etc.
Full motorcyle licnece (21+) Pass test on a 500cc (46+bhp) machine and allowed to ride any bike straight away with no restrictions.

dont mention riding without restrictors etc on here m8, it stir's up alot of sh!t and we dont need another argument about that
all i can say is for the first time on a bike im happy to be 100% legal (when the baffle is in and the dark visor is off) and i want to keep like that for a while, but come next summer il probably take them out, i have 3 other mates on '33bhp licences' one on a 250 crosser no restrictions (but the restricted vfr is quicker than it all through the gears) and 2 on sv's one restricted on not and we all go out on rides together and have no problem keeping up with each other so were in no rush to derestrict
my restricted vfr is good for 110+ and can cruise at 95 all day long
