NC24 Elictric short??

Post by Utopic » Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:13 am

Hi Guys

Was running some checks on my bike this morning and opened the fuse box to find the main light fuse melted to smitherines plus the park light fuse badly blown. Now the lights have been working perfectly well so I have no clue where to start. When I bought the bike I had to replace the reg/rec, cdi and starter solenoid. My battery doesn't charge either and I have to take it out and charge it every 2 or so days. How do I go about finding where the fault lies because I can't afford an auto electrician right now.

Peace

Sounds like a combination of generator and reg/rec failure.

So I don't really have a choice but to take it to an auto electrician then?

No need if you have a multimeter and aren't blind :peace:

Have a search in the V4 Workshop section, generator testing was covered less than a few days ago.

Are the fuses blown or have the fuse holders melted?

The fuse for the main light was completely melted but the holder seems ok, the plastic around it is a little melted but I assume that's from the melted fuse itself. The park light fuse was just blown but it fell apart completely when I pulled it out.

Suggest a voltage/current spike. As well as checking the reg/rec and genny, it would be advisable to change the headlight bulb too.

Shot, I'll replace the globe, its got a brand new reg/rec so I'm praying that the gennie hasn't blown that one too. I'll test everything this weekend but think I'll just dump her at the auto electrician and get it sorted.
