Thaks Jim according to the link i put up the mk1 shock is 310mm eyelet to eyelet but i will double check when i get home tomorrow.

Hmmm Cammo you make a good point so will prob try and sort a rvf link if funds allow have to see what the charge is gonna be for the shock refurb, think the shock rod needs re chroming or replacing which is a bit of a bugger.

I had an early RS250 shock refurbed by Revs Racing towards the end of last year, stripped, serviced, resovoir turned 180 degrees, extra shim added to rebound stack and re-gassed. They also fitted a new Maxton spring I supplied, cost about £110 (+ spring) all in with postage I think.

I've sent mine to Firefox racing, found them on eBay and they are only 30mins down the road from me, was a bit dubious about sending it to them but having spoke to them I was a bit happier as they have done these before for the nc30 and apparently they produce the rs250 damper rod that I need as mines corroded, they might. E able to supply the seals but I'm not sure they will, I asked if they would just sell me the rod but they wouldn't. My mate is a suspension tech at Ktm so was gonna have him do it an give me a tutorial.

In total this has cost me the following,
Shock off eBay - 40
Spring - 40
Shock refurb incl rid - 150

So not cheap really but that's mainly down to me rod being buggered, if that wasn't nailed then it'd be under 200.

Good idea, but be aware that drilling the link will effectively stiffen the spring rate. E.g. the spring will feel softer when you go back to an rvf linkage. Just a consideration.
How would it make it any different Cammo? If he drills his Vfr link 8mm shorter it would be the same size as the rvf link so would make no difference would it???

I'm weighing in at just shy of 15 stone leathered up... Would an 875 spring be ok for my big arse? Or heavier still???
Cheers paul

CMSMJ1 said that he was just under 15, 14.7 i think with gear and he reckoned it was under sprung for him with the 875 spring.

I reckon I could/shouldhave got a harder spring... I have an 875lbs on my rs250 and have had for a few years. It is still hanging on in there.

To be fair, it is alright, but any stiffer on the spring and you'll run out of rebound damping, or stress it too much unless you get another shim added to the stack.

875 all geared up..reckon you'll get away with it.

I'm prob 15st something geared up...

I also use the RVF linkage and know what Cammo is saying. The drilled VFR does ont equal the std RVF - slight difference in shapes IMO...not sure you'd tell

Paulie,

i wouldn't bother mate, and if you did i would strongly advise against using firefox, complete shite!!

Rang them up before i sent it to them and went through in detail exactly what i wanted doing and what the shock needed, including the rod etc and longer hose.

Was quoted £155,
100 for the rebuild and 55 for the new rod.
They have had the shock 3 weeks, told me it would be ready on the 6th feb, which it wasnt then was told it'd be ready on the 10th without doubt, which it wasnt!!!

this caused me massive problems as i was intending to put it on the bike on sunday then had booked work off for monday and was going to spend the day going through the bike from front to back and then back to front ready for a trackday at Oulton on the 18th. I work in wales so wont be back home till Fri night so wont have anytime to do anything other than load the van up!!

Just rung me now shock is eventually ready, and being posted back to me ready for Friday when i will have to try and fit it, and hope it all goes straight in with no probs ready for sat more at oulton, not ideal at all to be honest.

And then to really take the piss and make me lose my cool on the phone, they now want £200 for it the pricks, as apparently there was more to do on it than they first thought, which is utter bollocks as i spent 20mins on the phone telling them what i wanted before getting the quote and sending it.

Told them i wont ever be sending them anything again.

In all honesty i could have had a 2nd hand maxton/nitron shock for the price this has cost me. Granted it would have needed to be serviced on top of that but it would be a far better product than my "cheap" RS250 trackshock.

Rant over, pisses me off though!!!
