Re: reg/rec connection
I had to cut the block off my mates NC23 after it had melted around the connectors due to the Reg/Rect packing up... pushed the spades all back on and wrapped plenty of insulation tape round, works a treat!

Re: reg/rec connection
my loom connector has melted as well on all 3 of the yellow wires but not the other 2, why does it do this, does this mean the reg/rec is faulty? i was just going to make new connections with spade connectors covered in heat shrink then i was gonna fill the connector with silicone to prevent water ingress

Re: reg/rec connection
the job of the reg/rec is to convert ac voltage from the alternator to dc volts and to regulate the voltage to run 12v electrics and charge the battery etc.clemsta wrote:why does it do this, does this mean the reg/rec is faulty?
a problem with reg/rec is overheating and connections becoming burnt out and arcing from the excess heat and also from vibration!
the reg/rec dispels heat by means of cooling fins(heavy duty) and also a good earth with the frame(oe).....it also cools down whilst charging the battery.....
if you are concerned, just do a few simple checks with a multimeter, test the charge rate at the battery and also the voltage output of the alternator.
i would also renew the connections after making sure everything is working ok and check it every so often to see if it happens again.
another tip on cooling the reg/rec is to use your lights more often, this allows the reg/rec to charge the battery as it loses a slight charge...keeping the reg/rec cooler!!!this theory has caused debate before!
note:that is just a rough guide of the top of my head on how it works etc.......but im sure it is pretty accurate

william
please,god,....give me the chance to prove that winning the lottery won't spoil me!!!

Re: reg/rec connection
if the big connector is hard to find.. or your on a budget..
cut the old connector block off
strip each wire end
scrape each wire until its copper again
crimp new spade crimps on
plug each one in to the reg/rec.
same applies to the ECU i think..
**make sure you get the right size crimps before you start cutting!
