Re: 94 CB 400 STalling Issues
OK, a bit of progress today. I've checked out all the bits of the fuel system. Seems to work OK. I ran it till it ran of fuel today then topped it up. Once topped up it seemed to have an issue with starting. When pressing the starter I heard a click but the starter did not turn over. I'm beginning to think this is the cause of my issues.
What would cause the the above issue. Initally I thought flat battery but after a few tries the motor turned over and started and ran well.
Now I'm thinking it's some sort of earthing issue!!!

Re: 94 CB 400 STalling Issues
OK thought I'd managed to get ahead on (charged battery, checked connections, checked earth) this but took it out for a ride this weekend and it decided to just stop on me again. This time it didn't want to start for me at all. All I could get when pressing teh starter was a clicking from behind the left side engine cover!
Any thoiughts

Re: 94 CB 400 STalling Issues
Last year my bike had a similar problem when it just died and then when trying to start it I heard the clicking sound from under the seat. Basically the battery was dead, so got a new one, but after a few weeks it died too, turned out the Reg/Rec was knackered, so had to get a new one fitted. The Reg/Rec had actually corroded into place, so it must have been the corrosion in the connection that meant the issue was intermittent and that the Battery just wasn't getting fully charged all the time.
Hope this might be of some help to you and that you get the problem sorted.

Thanks for the response. When I get the bike back I'll do some more investigation but the more I think about it the more I was beginning to suspect battery / rectifier.
I'd also been in touch with the fellow that I bought the bike off and asked if they had ever seen any of these issues and they had not (and they had not been riding the bike much either) which also makes me think that it could be battery / rectifier.

Collected the bike earlier in the week. Went to start it and it turned over straight away but was a little cold. It then started clicking and not turning. Jumped it off the car and got it home.
Spent some time playing with the electrosport flowchart today. Ititial response saw that there was no issue. I kept on going and found that the voltage during the stator check was a little low (47.xV) and the threshold is 50V. Has any one changed a stator?
I still think that the issue is RR related as with the RR out it was showing the same symptoms I've seen before but want to rule out all of the issues.

Re: 94 CB 400 STalling Issues
It's been a while since I updated this, mostly because I'd not been riding the bike all that much. Took it out in Oct last year and it went OK, we did about 120km that day.
Over CHristmas I decided to sell it. Got someone to come round and the thing would only run on 2 cyclinders. Thinking it was old fuel I replaced it started her up again and still the same problem. Down on two cylinders (2 & 3)
Thinking this was the coil I whipped them off the bike and brought them into work to check. It seems that one of then is cactus. And one of teh leads seems a bit high in resistance as well. So some replacement parts on order and hopefully we can get it running again.
A question though, would a dodgy coil have been causing the stalling issues? In my mind as the bike would be warming up the coil could be breaking down increasing resistance and then stalling.

Re: 94 CB 400 STalling Issues
If my superfour stands for any length of time (say a month) when I come to start it it will fire but not on all four cylinders I feel the exhaust pipes to see which is cold strange thing is it is never the same one on each occasion so I put it down to the fuel level in the carbs.
It only takes a short while for it to get to its correct level in the carbs before resuming running as normal.
Did you check that small bore tank breather pipe for a blockage , if the bike has/had been standing prior to you buying it that could have debris in, I know mine had debris/crap in but it had been standing 12 years before I got it.

Good though. Mine seems to be constantly not firing on 2 and 3 cyclinders. I thought that this could be due to the the coil and leads. A second hand set that were tested before fitting did not solve the problem
.
Next step is to get the park unit out and see if I can test it. I'll also line check teh wires that run to the coils.
Wih me luck!

For your motorcycle switching off by itself(before you go into any wiring etc.. check these basic things):
1. Poor battery
2. Loose battery pole
For not all cylinders firing all the time(given that you've checked the condition of your plugs and leads & have a clean carb):
1. Fuel filter is obstructing your fuel flow (Im pretty sure your motorcycle does not come stock with the fuel filter. Mine's 5 years younger than yours and it doesnt!). Remove it completely from the system and see what happends. Also check that the little vacuum hose isnt blocked. Oh and make sure all vacuum hoses are connected + place your hands underneath the carbs to check if they're all getting cold i.e getting fuel
Good luck!
