Me! I have the picture somewhere... there isn't an awful lot inside it say compared to an ECU but a little more than just a resistor.royster81 wrote:i remember someone opening one up before, cant for the life of me remember who ?
Maybe there is some kind of static advance or retard / override on the igition. It should be still in the UK, if I can't pick up a cheap one i'll get it sent over and get around to following which wire goes to where inside and should be able to work out if it's changing anything more than just the speed sense wire :)
Hopefully clarify the issue once and for all.

Re: is this real or just bs?
I have one of these fitted to my road bike.
One of the advantages that most people are overlooking is the raising of the rev limit by 1000rpm. It is way past the peak power (about 13.5k) but allows you to hang onto a gear a bit longer if a corner is coming up and a gearchange would be a waste of time etc.
My bike has a Yamamoto half system and Bakudan needles and jets, and with airbox etc made 55hp so I dont think the box is harming the power. For this run I had messed around with the jetting and fitted 118/120 or 120/122 but it was far too rich and I have now gone back to the 115/117 Bacudan jets but I cant see it being lower than this now. I will try scan it soon and add to the dyno thread.
I am now going to put all these bits on a track bike and will do a bit of dyno testing, so will try do a run with and without it plugged in but it wont be soon.

Re: is this real or just bs?
* I don't beleive it does raise the revs *
However, running into higher rev limits is a bad idea IMO on these motors, They are not as fresh as they were and taking it to the rev limiter regularly is not cool.
I've turned my max revs down on my ignitech box and have fettled the curves myself a fair whack. Could do with something to calibrate the advance and also to remind people that if you are advancing the ignition then you need hgher octane fuel for the slower burn rate. You also want higher compression if you can manage it.

Re: is this real or just bs?
What is the rev limit on a standard nc30? I am pretty sure mine used to cut at 14.5k before fitting the box and now goes beyond 15k, both on rev counter and dyno run.
I am not advocating high revs or damaging engines, just trying to let people know what the box does and let them make up their own minds. I personally change gears earlier, keep the oil fresh and never run without an air filter but I have the option of higher revs if I want

Its worth noting that your stock tacho will be out by atleast 1k by the time its showing 15k, this reading can be adjusted if using a ignitech so you get a true reading

I'm gonna put my kneck on the line here and say that the HRC unit on the original post does nothing more than just remove the 180kph speed limit. In the same light that there is no evidence to prove or disprove what it actually does, aside from PaulBFD's bike getting 1 BHP less when he added the unit, but that could be down to a number of factors, not just the fitting of an HRC unit.
Call me a sceptic, but until prove wrong, to me, that box is worth no more than the resistor that costs about 10p to remove the speed limit on the bike.

I agree with you Viper - the fact that 10s of people on here have had the boxes (and always flogged them) says to me that they do nowt but allow you to run without a speedo.

Yep, thats what I originally put, I know in the one I have in pieces there isn't a lot in it.viper_biker wrote:I'm gonna put my kneck on the line here and say that the HRC unit on the original post does nothing more than just remove the 180kph speed limit. The SP spec is High Octane fuel but I guess that from the rest of the setup.
The only thing i'm not quite sure on.
The M-Max / Red Rev boxes plug into where the clocks would go.. the little 3 pin connector that goes to the speedo.
Why didn't the Honda one do this? Why does it pass all of the ECU wires through it unless it possibly does something else, or Honda just had too much money to spend!
Interesting though.

Not all M-Max boxes go into the clocks. My M-Max plugs in line between the CDI and the main loom.Neosophist wrote:The only thing i'm not quite sure on.
