a wee while back my dipped beam or main beam stopped working so all i had was the sidelights and full beam,i done a few tests and came to the conclusion it was the switch that was faulty.
so i replaced the switchgear and as i thought it was working fine but then all of a sudden the dipped beam stopped working again.......
what can be causing this?i done some tests again and it would seem that the switch is faulty...again?whats the chances!!!!????
the bulbs are fine and both elements are fine.

any ideas folks,much appreciated!!!!!

most likely your running 60/55 bulbs on a jap spec bike so the low beam is drawing too much current and burning your switch out.. You need to wire an appropriate vehicle current rated relay into the low beam circuit, or just never use it..

if thats the case then should there be visible sign of burning?

cant say as i havent had the problem myself but from what iv read the problem manifests itself in the switch, and by drawing too much current this would cause overheating of the terminals so yes you should see signs of burning.. Have you checked the internals of the switch and is there burning? Was it the main or dipped beam that failed initially?

its the dipped beam that has failed.....my sidelights still work and full beam works.it failed a while back and when i fitted the switchgear yesterday it worked,i tried it this morning and it worked but this afternoon it was back to the way it was,i havent been using the lights as the bike is off the rd at the moment.....strange!!!!!

ive had a look there the now and it seems okay,no sign of overheating or burning but the last one was the same.

It's the plastic inside the switch itself, the contacts overheat, heats the plastic and it melts very slightly and prevents the little lever from flipping over then the contact 'floats' in between hi and lo contacting neither. Taking it apart to look at it and you can't see much unless you look very closely, taking it apart also tends to 'reset' it and then it works for a bit again.
