Extremely tight throttle (NC30)

Hi all, just fitted a restrictor kit to my NC30 and got the carbs back on.

Set about putting the throttle cables back on, all went fine (other than a bit of swearing due to really fiddly work) and I got the cables back on as the haynes manual said, but when I twist the throttle it doesn't spring back closed I have to push it back.

Being new to this bike and working on bikes in general I have no idea where to start with this.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

have you done both cables?

Have you got them the right way round?

Yeah I re-linked both cables, I had marked them before I took them off to get the carbs off, so they're the right way round :/

I can't take a picture either, the frames in the way of the linkage to the carb, which is a pain.

sounds like there's too much free play in the return cable (too much slack)

have you tried adjusting them via the lock nuts either at the carby end or the throttle end?

i've had this issue before and all i had to do was adjust the amount of tension in the cables to fix it.

Cheers for the advice, I'll adjust the cables tomorrow after work and lube them with a bit of WD while I'm at it.

Hopefully that's all it will be, don't fancy fiddling with springs and new cables etc....

Either too much play or they are twisted, or bent too much in one place

Just sorted the problem, had to take the cables off completely, they were dry as a bone and slightly twisted, so I stuck some GT85 down them (like WD40 but better in my opinion). Then I re-attached the cables carbs first which seemed to resolve the problem as the throttle springs back nicely now.

Got the air filter and tank back on, re-attached all the functional parts and started her up.
Sounds lovely even with the restrictor in, kicked out some steam like smoke but I'm guessing that's the WD I used to lube up the inlet rubbers to help get the carbs back in.

Now all thats left is the fairings and to ride the beauty!

Might also be condensation... builds up in the engine while there standing and takes quite a long time for it to burn off or 'stop steaming.' Nothing to worry about unless you've done a 100 mile ride, it's still steamining and theres no water in the rad!

And GT-85... what a lovely smell eh
