Hi, im going to check my shim clearances and was hoping some of you experts could give me any tips.
The main ones being on removal and replacement of the shims as Im sure I will have to replace 2 as last year they were just within the limits. Namely the outer inlet shims of 1 and 4 were tight, that is, as long as I measured them right ( between the follower and cam lob?). The main thing I dont care for is the removal of the cams covers as I have read they are very brittle, so help there especially. Although anything would be helpful. Yes I need someone to hold my hand on this, its one of many areas Im unsure about.

Re: Valve Shim Tips Needed
It's not the covers you need to be carefull with its the cams, incorrect placement before tightening them down can easily lead to a snapped cam, take your time and follow the Haynes.

Re: Valve Shim Tips Needed
I was told by Graeme that the cams do move a fraction (tooth) when you try a start bolting them down so as Tanuki has said watch out for this.

Re: Valve Shim Tips Needed
Yep its thought of buggering it all up that worries me, something I cant afford to do.
I have obtained my clearances, checked several times. These are for my bike which is the R model and Ex differs slightly from the L & N models. They have not changed since last year, the 1 and 4 outer inlets are just in according to Haynes, maybe all could benefit from thinner shims possibly. The gude below is as sitting on the bike. Any thoughts would be welcome
inlets.. 1/.12-.15.. 2/.15-.15.. 3/.15-.15.. 4/.15-.12..
Ex.. All are .19
