newbie in fife nc24 project
hi just picked up a nc24 for £250 as my winter project plastics are a wee bit rough and a few bits and pieces are missing or needing replaced now for the bits im having problems with
bottom right carb has a washer in the mixture screw its the only one that does
theres a breather ontop of the airbox its a t piece what connects to them?
filter inside the tank snapped off when trying to remove it any ideas how to get it out?
did have it running but only on the left 2 cylinders carbs are off and been stripped down and cleaned need to check the jet sizes make sure the correct ones are in hopefully it will start when i order up some new rubbers
will try and get some pics up how do i put pics up?

becareful it doesn't turn into a money pit!
all 4 carbs on the pilto screws should have.
Rubber washer, small spring and metal washer.
They can often be stuck inside the carbs.. a keen eye and torch with a long needle and you can fish them out.
Check needles / jets emulsion tubes are all correct and in the right places.
115 all around
4 hole emulsion tubes in front carbs, 5 hole in rears.
Check and reset float heights, 6.8mm. Pilot screws 2 turns out.
Check and adjust valve clearances.
Balance carbs.
Check battery condition and reg/rec altenator as they are known weakpoints.
Providied all of the above has been done, spark plugs are in good order it should run like a watch... beware of old carb rubbers too they might not seal.
The drain pipes connect to the t piece and just goto air..

cheers Neo will check the jet sizes tonight and set mixture screws to 2 turns out just going to renew the rubbers im sure someone mentioned the tappered rubbers can't mind what bike though and where from read that many posts on here lol
also going to replace plugs too all are sparking but will change anyway the other problem is i managed to snap the in tank filter not sure how im going to get it out a mate reccomended using cream says it melted the filter on his old gs 1000
as for the bike being a moneypit know what you mean if the costs keep going up will sell or break it fingers crossed though it wont come to that spent ages polishing the frame can etc thanks for your advise will keep updating this thread all the way need to suss out how to get my pics up i know how everyone on here loves them lol

Tip the tank upside down (
drain it first obviously
) and give it a shake, the filter should fall out, mine had been butchered with a screwdriver or something all around the reserve section by a previous owner when i bought it. you should be able to use it again though, I just cut the bad bit off and stuck it back into the top of the tap assembly with some petrol resistance sealant, (blue hylomar) its been there a few years now and hasn't gave any more trouble. 
When you do get it out you will see it has a long gauze part at the top, then a solid bit and then the reserve gauze at the bottom, I cut the reserve part off as it was butchered. this left a solid bit that was strong enough to support it in the tap. I think it has probably gave me a bit less miles when on reserve but I just try to keep the tank well filled so it isn't really an issue..

cheers Spooky will give it a tr tomorrow filter was that choked up no petrol was comming out at all tanks as empty as i can get it hopefully get it out in one piece kinda spat the dummy out when it happened so been polishishing up the frame can and link pipe might not run great the now but looks good lol

When you say petrol doesn't come out at all, makes me think the vacuum pipe, have you checked it for leaks/ splits ect. also check the diaphram in the tap works.

when i took the tank off thats when i noticed i was getting no petrol out of it as wanted to drain the old stuff
took the petrol cock off blew threw it and its working ok still no petrol comming out thats when i saw the filter and broke it trying to remove it tanks nearly rdained just a wee bit in the bottom
since its the single sided swinging arm on it decided to make an abba stand as not paying £105 for one wish me luck on that if i ever get my pics up will post pics of me fabricating the stand out of old box section

The tap is vaccum operated.
It needs a suck from the cranking engine to open it, even when it's switched to on, it's a Honda safety feature.
You'll see a small rubber pipe from the tap that runs down to the side of the rear left cylinder just behind the frame.
If you remove the pipe from the engine and suck on it the petrol will flow

hey all been doing alot recently mostly polishing to the frame subframe and started on the forks today still can't get any pics up though
what am i doing wrong? lol
