Marks 1wg/3tj valve cover gasket?
Don't ask me why but am starting to get worried that my valves need checking as that is the only service job that has not been done!
My local dealer said they would do it for £145 gulp, but the rubber gasket will need replacement! Do you know if the gaskets are the same or if 1wg one is still available or does anyone have a spare one?
Having a few health issues at the mo otherwise I would be asking how to do it and cover bolt torque settings! Also if I find any out it would have to go to garage anyway. Apart from slow running issues that I have always had it goes like a rocket so I hope I'm worrying over nothing!
Also need a 3TJ throttle cable if anyone has one?
Thanks as always
Mark
P.s this all started after ringing PDQ to enquire about getting it dynoed becouse of the slow running, time I explained he said compression would be down and valves burnt and basically I would be wasting my money and to get a new bike. Not what I want to hear at the moment!

If your bike goes like a rocket then the chances are the compression is good. What PDQ say is reasonable though, you don't want to take it to a dyno only to find it's valve adjustment and have pay for two things. I think you've already done a compression test anyway and found it's ok so I wouldn't worry to much.
Ok, the cam cover gasket is probably still available they're a common part with the FZR600 and possibly the 3TJ / 4JH /Thundercat, I wouldn't worry about the torque settings on the cover I use a 1/4" ratchet so as not to over tourque them but really just do them up. Usually the gasket goes on the left side I think it's the hot oil collecting in the semi circular bits when the bikes on the side stand.
Try not to worry about your bike, it runs well and any mixture problems aren't so big that you can't ride round them at the moment. It's getting colder and as a pleasure rider I doubt you'll be on it all winter, you'll just have to polish it for a while

Thanks EC , never done a compression test as it was supposly done before I had it (like many other things!!) rang Fowlers and the gasket is diffent from 3TJ but they do have one £20. I went out the other day and it was fab! I guess if it still does 100mph not too much can be wrong, it developed a rev thing when I went to go through town that when I had been going through traffic that once I shut the throttle it carried on for a few seconds at just over 2000 revs before dropping down to tickover, as soon as I got on the open road it was gone! As soon as the engine reached 7500 rpm it really takes off!
Is it ok if I speak to you later?
Thanks for your time!

20 quids not bad - see if you can borrow a compression tester from the garage, doing the outside cyliders should be easy enough. You just screw it into the spark plug holes and turn the engine on the starter.

probably best to go new anyway as rubber has a habit of cracking and there's ne guarantee the second hand one will be any better!

Re: Marks 1wg/3tj valve cover gasket?
Thanks guys I have a new one coming tomorrow! I have decided to check them myself and if they are to close have the garage pick the bike up and do them. Does anyone know for sure what the clearances should be on a 1st?
I will not be doing this till new year!

Will do valves when weather is better! Does the radiator need to be removed or can you just unbolt it and it will just drop down enough?
Thanks
