Guys.

I'm going to embark on the unenvible task of replacing the rear shock on the NC30.

Is there a How To.... on this forum that anybody may have a link to?

If not, anybody got a copy or PDF of the chapter on the Haynes manual?

You could just purchase it instead of being a cheapo? It costs like 20 quid.

Otherwise it's easiest to remove the rear half of the exhaust, and you should be able to get to mounting bolts. Tank obviously needs to be removed as well, also the sub frame can be removed if need be. It's pretty straight forward.

no i wont host haynes copies on here.

remove rear half of exhaust, remove seat unit, suspend bike with either an abba stand or a pair of axle stands on the pegs, get a friend and be careful the bike doesnt fall off.

best to loosen the top mount bolt and lower linkage before you suspend it too.

buy an abba stand they make the job so easy and its poss the best workshop tool you will ever use - after the haynes manual

You can find the PDF of the nc30 honda service manual on the net if you search for it. Doesn't go into great detail but more than enough to get the shock changed.

combine it with the advice above and you should be good to go

Thanks all...... Haynes manuals in my opinion are a little hit and miss, I cant stand the "Take off this part as described in chapter 1" this is when your in chapter 12 for the part you're removing. I have d/l'd the honda manual from here. Good to a certain extent.

As there is a few "how to's" on here I thought there might be one.

I did mine recently. I used an abba stand, recommended!
I didn't however remove the exhaust or subframe. Once the wheel is off by moving the swingarm up and down you'll somehow wiggle the damper out, it's a bit tricky but not impossible.
Check all the bearings and seals whilst it's out, maybe worth buying the swingarm tool too and taking that out also and inspecting seals and bearings.

Didn't even think that was possible

How did you managed to squeeze the damper out of there and more importantly back in to place!? Do you have any knuckles left?

I posted on here and asked as I didn't think it was possible without probably removing the subframe but someone said it was possible and it came out ok. I refitted an Ohlins unit and was easy enough.

I used the stand to remove the Abba and take the swingarm out.

Well colour me impressed. I might have a go at doing it that way when I have to re-do mine as mine's fucked! What's the A frame for at the back? Just-in-case?

made about 15 years ago to support an internal door, which are quite flat for when I was welding up a mountain rescue stretcher!
Two strong stools and a plank of wood would do the job just as well tho :-)
