need a reg for frame no. ??

Post by stedo » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:39 pm

I want to get a reg for my track bike, obviously I have the frame number but bike didn't come with log book.
I do have a spare frame with log book but can't be bothered swapping everything over if I can get it registered easy enough.
Cheers

Most bike shops will be able to do a hpi check on the frame number. Once this is done they will be able to tell you the reg number (if its been registered in this country).
This is how i managed to get a v5 for my track bike.

Hi

I have just tried sending the form to the DVLA with just the chassis no, but they wrote back saying they need to inspect the bike which is a real pain. Only do it this way if you have a DVLA local office near you and a van. Even then, I guess they could try and Q plate it. I like the above option more.

Thats no good. It'll get Q plated.

What you need to do is enquire with the DVLA if they have that frame number for a Honda motorcycle registered on their system.

If it's been registered in the UK you should be able to recover the numberplate / log book for it.

If it has never been registered with the DVLA then you'll need a dating certificate from Honda or an approved body and still need an inspection at a dvla centre that you cant ride the bike too.

Bike also needs to be MOT'd and insured (on the frame number) before you take it if your registered a new import.

Good chance it's already reg'd in the UK.. just hope it's not recorded as a Cat 'a/b/c/d' damage etc.

The DVLA need you to send the form with the reg number on it, you can get this by ringing a bike dealership, you provide them with your frame number and they can hpi the bike for you, this will retrieve the reg number, but also will retrieve any other info stored about the bike, as said above this could mena cat C/D etc or nicked more worringly.

As reverse cylinder says above this is also how i got my reg doc for my trackbike. apparently as a private individual you cant hpi it yourself off the frame number only a dealership can, normally cost about £15 and then another £25 for the reg doc from DVLA, make sure you declare it sorn in the appropiate box when you send the form requesting a new reg document.

Thanks guys.
Had it hpi'd today by my car dealer mate. Nothing at all came up, so it looks like a frame swap unless any other ideas.
Cheers

can you not change the frame number on the V5 from the one you have the reg for?

I am going to do that to keep my reg on a new frame - DVLA said all good, just take lots of pictures to illustrate it is the same bike/frame

hmmm do you mean it found no records and say that it had never been registered, or did the system say that the frame number was incorrect and couldnt search the database?

mine said the frame number was incorrect, when HPI'd nothing came up the first couple of times, its because the NC30 doesn't use the 17 number system!

You have to enter the vin into the hpi system without the nc30- bit, i think but i cant totally remember i just know that they had to try a couple of combinations before the hpi system recognised the frame number and gave the details.
