Transmission shaft oil seals

Had a search through the site and found nothing..

I've got my crank case in half at the moment, and it looks like the oil seal on the output shaft has a very slight leak, but could be just oil dripped down from splitting the case (this is the oil seal on the front sprocket shaft). The Haynes manual says the pushrod oil seal also needs to replaced when the case has been split. Is this true, or can I just chuck some sealant around the outside of it and torque the case halves back together.

What I'm wondering is if these oil seals are a generic item and if they can be picked up from any old shop, so I don't have to pay a premium and wait two weeks to get the Honda branded ones?

Also, one more question for the veterans out there, how do you remove the larger bearing from the input shaft? The smaller bearing on the end of it just pulled off, but the bigger bearing near the middle won't budge, and it looks like it would be difficult to get a bearing puller onto it because of the splines on the side it has to be pushed from.

Well in the past it is always best to change both as its a lot of work if it starts leaking for the couple of quid it costs! I would do them everytime if the casings are split as they have been disturbed. A couple of weeks seems a little long as usually off the shelf items. Speak to Rick O on hear he'll get you a couple in days usually and no these I would stick with Honda as I only think they make them.

I'm in Australia.. Anything from the UK will take weeks. So they aren't a generic item? A shop where I live said the pushrod oil seal is $15.. Hell, the gasket for the water pump was $12!

Shame if I'd seen this earlier I would have picked you up some and give them to Josh Brookes at the bike show today LOL.
