oookay so I bought the Mrs a project NC30. Must have had my ebay googles on cus its far worse than it looked in the ebay pictures. While it seemed pretty unmolested to start with its pretty obvious theres much to do, some of it owed to the fact its been left outside near the coast.
When I went to take the swingarm and linkages off I discovered something very unsettling....I couldnt get the bolt for it out of the frame because there was some very un-honda like welding on the lug for the sidestand mount.
Im trying to piece together just why this has been done... has anyone ever found this?
My guesses:
* A big accident - suggested even more by the fact that the hoop you push with your boot heel is missing with two little stubs as to where it used to be.
* Its been raced and somone cut it off
I suspect we are going to need to get the chassis checked

Re: Nc30 of disturbing secrets
Strange one.
Sidestand lug isnt' likely to break off in most accidents I can imagine, it's too far out the way to be affected, unless like you say it's really bad.
Perhaps its been cut off at somepoint?
If you use a spirit level and make sure the bike is level, drop a weighted piece of string down each side from the rear seat and meaure the distance to the tyre from each side.. it's quite common for subframes to be bent after a crash.
long steel girders placed alongside a straight front wheel will also tell you if the front and back is straight

Re: Nc30 of disturbing secrets
wow thats pretty bad. only thing i can think of was maybe if it was raced and some wingnut decided instead of unbolting the stand - to simply cut it off.
easier and less worry to re frame it IMO

Re: Nc30 of disturbing secrets
Im not the only one thinking the racing theory then. The use of lockwire to attach the vacumn pipe to the engine did start the cogs turning in my head too.
Doesnt even look like they welded it back on right. Not to mention that they may well have stripped the threads as theres a bolt with a nut on the end going through one of the holes.
So pitted forks, corroded nuts, mismatching bodywork, paint coming off front wheel in sheets - oh ebay lottery has been a cruel mistress!
