Wanted: Restrictor washers for fzr 400 3tj
hi guys i have just brought a fzr 400 3tj and because of my age it needs to be restricted to 33bhp and was wondering if anyone knows the dimensions of the washers so I might be able to 'make' a set, or if anyone knows of where toget a set.

just remember the law states the restrictors have 2 be fitted by an authorised dealer not just a doit ya self item, i even had to have mine fitted by the boss at work when i needed my gs restricting!! the law it sucks.
just remeber though once they have been fitted and the dealer has stamped the paper work in the eyes of the law its 33bhp but who knows what the little elves do at nite ummm.... may be pop the washers out when no 1s looking.

A lad up the road had a SV650 with a 33bhp kit due to his age.
What he told me is that it's all very well the elves being at work once the paperwork's there, just don't have cause for your bike to be scrutinised (i.e. don't crash) bacaue the plod and the insurers are wise to this.
PS The elves have been at work on his bike

Not wishing to cause offence to previous posters BUT
There is nothing in the road traffic act requiring the restrictors to be fitted by a qualified person.
Therefore absolutely anybody can fit them.
There is also nothing in the road traffic act requiring you to have a certificate prooving the bike is restricted to 33bhp.
It can however be useful to have such a piece of paper when dealing with the less experienced boys and girls in blue.
As a result they cannot require you to produce this certificate.
As we all know this certificate is not actually worth the paper it has been printed on as anybody can remove the restriction but keep the paperwork. (as indicated by posts both within this topic and elsewhere on the board)
Should you wish to you can actually bodge up your own little system of restricting the bike and as long as the bike then produces no more than 33bhp you have FULLY complied with the requirement made by the road traffic act.
If there is an issue (such as a collision or getting caught riding like a w****r) where the validity of the bikes restriction is then called into question it becomes the job of the police to proove the bike is producing more than 33bhp. They will seize your bike under pace (police and criminal evidence act) and submit it to examination.
If you haven't complied then you commit the offence of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and potentially driving with no insurance (depending on your insurance companies view of you riding the unrestricted machine having told them it was restricted).
hope that helps.

The easiest way to restrict the bike is to get the washers and either istall them yourself or get somebody to do it. Then have you bike dyno'd, set up to run with the restrictors and get a printout showing 33hp.
The forum is read by all members of the public which can include traffic cops, the law is there for a reason and even though you think your a riding god your not, so stay within the law. Most insurance companies will only insure you for a bike your licensed to ride and any accident will automatically become your fault if your restricted.

after consulting 2 traffic police officers 1 my uncle the other a friend who have been in the job 20+ years and also asking at the motorcycle dealership i work at. if you have a restricted liecence the bike has to be restricted to 33bhp and have relevent certification registered to the owner of that bike for it to be a legal, the only people to do these and be recognised by the law is Fi International. the kit can only be fitted by an approved technician of the dealership that you order the kit from as the certificate is tied in with them to. when it has been restricted the dealer keeps a copy of the certificate, Fi get a copy which then goes on to their system to show it has been restricted and the customer gets a copy for proof should the police ask for the production of the riders documents, they CAN ask for this and do.
if any other kit is fitted or there are no certificates or they are just sum bodged together restrictors they ARE NOT legal and there for if you are in a collision etc. no matter what the blame you will be deemed to be using a vehicle not inaccordance with your liecence and then be held responsible.

i have also spoke to the old bill and was told that as its just a modification then its down to the insurers as to what they want as proof, not just through fi international, its a massive con as others have already said, get the discs and fit them yourself.take it to a dyno if your really bothered but as another copper told me last week, they pulled soeone who didnt have any proof but they dont know what too look for and they aint gonna start paying out for dyno runs so they let him go.
i have been told by third parties about how the certificated bikes are on the police register, but again having asked the motorbike copper,he said thats also bull,so i will categorically state that you just have to somehow get the bike down to 33bhp and unless you are unlucky and your insurers only accept the fi certificate you can do it anyway you want.end of!

stracing I'm not looking to cause offence but I have a pretty good knowledge of pace and the road traffic act.
I would suggest you ask them to provide the relevant section of the road traffic act or construction and use act that details the requirement that restrictors MUST be supplied and fitted by FI International/other authorised body.
I would also love to know where they think they get their powers under the road traffic act to require production of a meaningless and by my understanding unrequired certificate. (sections 164 and 165 cover the powers given to police officers regarding production of documents. it certainly makes no mention of a dyno certificate.)
The road traffic act does not specify how the bike must be restricted, It does not specify who must restrict it. It does not specify that you must have formal certification demonstrating this restriction.
As for FI's database...... it's a marketing gimmick of zero value!
we all know that twenty minutes with a few allen keys/screwdriver will have the washer type restrictors gone but FI's database still says the bike's restricted... what tosh.
For a succesful prosecution the Police have to PROOVE the bike is not restricted.
There is no way to do this without a vehicle examination or roadside dyno.
interestingly Avon and Somerset Police apparantly have a trailer mounted dyno for this very purpose which they have apparantly been succesfully using to prosecute the scooter boys.
As for the insurance companies, they generally don't give a monkeys. as long as you have complied with the restriction requirements they don't care how it's done.

right or wrong id still opt for doing it the way that has been seen to be correct for many years now rather than risk the chance of ooops miss chelsea tractor pulled out on me and oh bollocks not got correct restriction see you in court.
im telling him how most dealers in the uk are told. in telling him that i have it not on my head if he gets done for doing itany other way. yes there may be ways round it but is it worth risking your liecence or worse a prison sentance if some 1 happens to be killed???
