crunch went my gearbox!!!!!
well folks......title says it all.......really p$$ed as it decided to go just when i have the money finally for a respray and wheels powdercoated.....
crunched rolling out of shed this morning, wasnt even in gear and heard a crack...hadnt a clue what it was ...couldnt see anything wrong so continued to roll it out, started her and then the gear lever wont even kick into 1st and hard to get it into second and when it did wont tap back into neutral. switched it off and may open up cover to investigate properly after dinner
anymone ever have this happen to them and what was outcome?....complete new (secondhand) gearbox or is a partial rebuild a waste of money(of course depends on the amount of damage )
cheers guys

Re: crunch went my gearbox!!!!!
Your gearbox is probably fine. More than likely one of your shift forks is now out of alignment. BUT you'll have to pull the engine and split the lower case to find out.

Re: crunch went my gearbox!!!!!
will go up and down the gears stiffly so reckon gears ok as you say, if i pull sump off will i be able to have a peep at the drum selector before i split it? is it possible to split the crankcase without removing the top half of engine?
i know engine will have to come out but the less i have to seperate the better.
thanks

Re: crunch went my gearbox!!!!!
You MAY be able to get to it without splitting it but I don't think so. But you wouldn't have to pull the head off. only pull the lower half of the case.

Re: crunch went my gearbox!!!!!

God I can't imagine if something went wrong for me, I have no money, for powdercoating or respraying or whatever!
