rs250 shock fitment and rear end overhaul ?

Post by Dynamohum »

can anyone advise regd fitment on an nc30, firstly is it ok to grind a bit of the rs bottom shock mount to fit the nc rocker ? also remote res fitment this one doesn't reach the original mounting point behind the pillion peg, anyone tried mounting them elswhere? the hose if turned 180 at res banjo would reach but obviously i would lose any charge in the shock if i tried it . as sir awex ferguson would say i'm pwewexed. :?

kay was it re-valved or was it ok stock? and how much did it raise the rear ride height ? i got an ohlins spring from rick oliver and mate who changed it reckoned that there was a fair bit of resistance in the shock. any starting points for compression rebound settings? dave. :)

I haven´t revalved it but it is something that i propably will do, because i run the adjusters at the stops!
It still is a lot better feeling than the standard shock.

I had a HRC spacer that was 10 mm thick and it is now sligtly higher, something like 12 mm is my guess. It steers briliant at the moment!

I also got myself an Ohlin spring from RO.

PS Does anyone have a shim for the RS250 shock that they don´t need? Please let me know if that is the case. DS

I didnt grind the the shock "fork end" on mine i got a extra dog leg and ground that down instead.

Mine has been in for 3 years now and i have not had any problems at all with it, that includes 8 track days as well.

As for your static sag/ re bound i set mine up the same as a normal shock, i.e lift the rear end take a measurement let it drop and measure it again, carry on until you get the level you want.

Which RS shock have you got as there 2 one is hight adjustable and one is not.

matty this one is height adjustable, do you think its best used at its shortest setting as it appears slightly longer than the stock showa unit anyway and its gonna be for road use. gave shock and rocker to a engineer mate and he is going to mill to fit the rocker, the problem i think i will reach is mounting the remote res as the braided hose doesn't reach the mounting point behind the rear footpeg unless the banjo is loosened and res turned 180 then i'm gonna have to get it reggased, the way its at the moment adjuster wheel on remote faces the front of the bike or are they all like that could banjo be loosened slightly without depresurising to allow rotation :?:

Grind the linkage down not the shock. Just turn the res around, but before you do that let the gas out through the valve on the res, then slacken the banjo off and turn it to the right angle. Pump your shock back up to 180 psi, ideally with nitrogen but air will do, so from a compressor or take it to a mountain bike shop as they have shock pumps to do it for you.

i just set the sag up and then jacked the rear up to give the bike better clearance. but there is no problems with doing this, as you can jack the rear end up buy using a rvf linkage or rick oliver sells a smiler parts to do the same job.
So if you use the height adjuster on the shock it just does the same thing.
