ok so iv seen its quite a popular mod but what front ends are commonly fitted and what are the best,

iv seen smev and other people have used rileys conversion kits to fit ducati forks but I think they would be would be a bit expencive for me, what other front ends have been fitted and what to nc30's and roughly what it all costs

I've also donre a ZXR 400 USD fork conversion in the past.

This involved using a complete ZXR400 front end (wheel, discs, forks, brakes, yokes) Bought from a Kawazaki breakers for about £250

I then used the stem from the NC30 yokes - got it pressed out, then did the same to the ZXR yokes- they also required a little machining.
I heated the ZXR yokes in a warm oven and chilled the NC30 stem, then dropped them together, and left until they cooled - hey presto - ZXr Yokes with the correct length stem. - fitted it all together and it was mint.

I even had the bike featured in Streetfighters Exteme edition 2005

i opted for RVF forks out of a race bike, with RVF yokes and VFR stem.
means you can use your front wheel and discs.

Will it make you go any quicker ? I dowt it.

Will you notice any difference Probably not.

Will it look trick yes.

If you are a budget I would say drop your folks out, and get them rebuilt by some one who knows what they are doing with say Ohlins internals.

The only advantage I can see from doing say a Ducati front end is the fact you can fit better discs and better callipers, but unless you are on the track you don't need it for road ridding.

Is the ZXR400 forks any better? I am not convinced.

These are just my thoughts, if you want to trick out your bike then I think it is very nice mod indeed but if you are just wanting a nice set up for road ridding I would go for the rebuild.

matt i think its about half and half between the two you said, my only thought is my incurance was bloody expencive this year (17 with 1 year ncb on a restricted bike) and is putting usd forks on going to mean i have to declare my bike (even more) modified, atm iv said i have crash bungs a can and restrictor kit.

what are peoples experiances with this in the past?

For the bang per buck it is pretty low on the list IMO.

Your insurance is not going to like anything that makes it more expensive to replace - are you fully comp? If not, then it does not matter really..just declare them anyways.

I think USD on the NC are good..but not really in keeping with the style of it (call me old..lol)

My o/e old skoolers are nicely setup and I have no issues at all. USD would make it heavier up top, not be much different in feel IMO and £250 worth of fecking about..I could buy some serious beer with that cash! :poke:

lol, nah im third fire and theft, but incurance was £600 and i cant afford to boost it any more next time

My point is that as long as the bike is not makde more desirable to theft..spanky paintjob etc, new USD's..and bling bits...then your insurance for tpft should not be affected that much.

fully comp would have them trying to buy a new bike for you or giving the cash and a £300 fork job on top of a £1500 bike is not what they want...Whatever - declare the mods you have.

If you win the bet with them and have not declared the mods then you lose.. :o

How much would a rebuilt of the original NC30 ones cost compared to a conversion?

A rebuild will only cost you seals and oil. It's pretty straight forward if you've got a Haynes manual (couple of hours). Stick some firmer springs in while you're at it and you'll have a weapon.

I'm a firm believer in go before show, and the standard NC30 forks are well up to the job with a little tweaking. Plus, race regs in Aus say we can't use other forks! :(
