Should I split up engine to remove gearbox? Tried to understand from manual, but it's no clear from pictures.

yes - you need to remove the engine, drop the sump, remove oil pump, clutch basket, starter gearing & alternator. Then you split the crank case - & can lift out the gearbox.
About 4 - 8 hours all in.
