HELP!!! Urgent, (KOSO) dash clock
Hi people, i know its late, but i have a strange problem with my Vfr400
.
ive just speant £200 on a Koso Rx1n Clock display for my Vfr400, which my Grandad(electrician) have just speant all day 11am - 10pm, fitting and wiring etc,
such a complicated job,, the instructions are (interesting) anyway they look bees knees and we have everything wired up and working, 2 problems, the major one is:
for some reason my bike is idling at daft rpm, like 8000rpm, but is ticking over asif it chould be the normal 1750ish, and everytime i get to like 9000-10000 is starts sputtering making a horrible noise and i have to gear up, the bike struggles to do 30 mph, this morning it was a BEast :D
tonight, it looks mint (modern) for my taste, but doesnt work
problem 2 is the Digital speedo says in doing like 7mph etc when doing 25, but i need to sort that out properly down to 6 magnets and the right Wheel Circumference etc,
anyway i know hardly any of you would of fitted anything like this as you all like your bikes Original, but i would love any help our advice,
the bike feels worse than Restricted and sick
really upset

Re: HELP!!! Urgent, (KOSO) dash clock
Hi there butler46, I have a Translogic digital dash installed on my RVF400 and I had to take mine to a shop with a dyno and had them calibrate the RPMs and MPH. Does it say in your instructions manual about calibrating your unit?

You've removed your original speedo so have affectively put your bike in to limp home mode, you need to do the resistor mod, do a search for it.
Regarding the revs over reading you need to adjust the pulse setting i think, its in the instructions. are you taking the rev feed from the cdi?

Re: HELP!!! Urgent, (KOSO) dash clock
i have HELP :) thank you soooo much guys :)
Wingzer: i have to calibrate some stuff, like how many magnets i have used (6) and the circumference and stuff, which is obv my disk brake each magnet is in one of the 6 nuts, its asking me the cycles and how many pistons i have etc which is 4, then asks something about high and low.
Drunknmunky: thanks, it does seem something is wrong,as before i had a kmh/mph blue adapter thing that converted the speed, and this gets rid of the derestriction or something ?
anyway i shall look into this Resistor mod,
does this explain why my bike gets to 9000 revs then doesnt work ? can i still ride my bike Slowly or could this do damage etc?
and what is the Pulse setting ? i thinik its wired to the Spark plugs ? or near there where the ht leads go, and near teh cdi at the back ?
thanks for the help so late on :)

Re: HELP!!! Urgent, (KOSO) dash clock
As others have said, no OEM speedo, no speed sensor which will limit rpm to 5000and if your tacho needs calibrating maybe your 9000 rpm miss fire is actually 5000 rpm no OEM speedo miss fire. If your new tacho pickup signal is from the coil HT you need to note NC30 ignitions are single coils per spark plug pair with waste spark.

Re: HELP!!! Urgent, (KOSO) dash clock
I too experienced the flat spot between 5 and 6K RPM prior to calibrating my digital dash. Had to do the resistor mod which helped out that problem. I don't think it hurts your bike, but the feeling sucks when you're trying to accelerate, hit a flat spot, then picks up again. Once you get apply the resistor mod and calibrate your unit, all will be well. Yours sounds more involved in terms of calibrating your unit. I didn't have to count or measure anything. I just installed the speed sensor by my rear tire in alignment with the sprocket bolts and had it calibrated at a shop with a dyno.

You need to adjust the setting to 2 cylinder, due to the wasted spark system, it thinks your doing double the revs.

Re: HELP!!! Urgent, (KOSO) dash clock
Easiest way to sort the speedo issue out is to use a analouge to digital convertor, koso sell them and they plug in where the stock speedo cable goes so also looks stock.
Ive never wired the rev counter up to the spark plugs, cant see why you would to be honest when the CDI provides a simple 1 wire connection
