first of all i was told to insure the valve clearence's are properly checked and all within tolerance before balancing the carbs as this will also affect idle and running, and balancing carbs over incorrect valve clearences is not really a good idea,
with after market pipe/can, set all pilots to 2.25 turns out from fully seated or -2hrs 15mins on the clock if you know wot i mean as in cammo's guide,
with the carbs off the bike you can visually set the butterflys, or use the drill bit method,
if you open the throttle and look down inside you can see 3 tiny holes in each body where the butterflys close, i sync each carb so the the first hole just starts to become visible , start with the carb with the tickover screw and then sync the rest in turn, thats always smoothed out things for me , but once back on the bike a carb tune will get it near on perfect (i dont have a carb tune and this method has always worked for me)
a slight adjustment on the tickover is needed after you start it up tho

iv checked my clearances, all within tollerance, plus befor i split the carbs the bike idel was spot on and reved up nice, its only cos i let her sit for a year i took them off to clean, so left butterflys well alone for now but as you said , they all opened and where located same position just before that small hole, i checked. my airscrews are only out by 2 turns though, as per the UK spec carbs....... so those may need a tweek, that was mainly my concern with it all see mate, how do you know you just dont have a dodgey airscrew setting over messing around with the flys to compinsate....seems odd.

this problem dosnt actually exsist either at the min lol its all hipothetical, i havnt tryed starting my bike since the rebuild. was just wondering how accurate the airscrews where and their involvment in the balencing the carbs where. being as all the other carbs iv worked on rely on delicate airscrew tweeks to settle the carbs vacum correct.............not just over the pilot circet but the whole rev range. as id imadgine so would the vfr.

cheers for any thoughts on this though, maybe some other lads would like to join in and tell me their thoughts.

I think I know what you mean, is it the fact that the heads on the airscrews don't match when you them all at 2 turns out for example? If so I wouldn't worry about it. My advice with carbs problems is to save you off and on with the carbs all day long just take em off once, strip completely, clean with carb cleaner and compressed air (lots oFf it) and blow the passageways out reverse if you know what I mean. Re assemble and reset everything, do it right and do it once ;) there's nothing more soul destroying than spending all day on and off with carbs on a v4.

well yeah thats my first concern tony. but yeah, im also awear that they might not line up after a turn out...... in fact they/dont lol none of them come to fact...........

its still a hypothectical questionj though, iv not started my carbs. bike up since rebuild but fully aware how importsant carb airascrews can be (iv had a few lol) so was just wondering peps thoughts on my therory............

if im honezst im still duebiase , unless butterfly adjustment is to increase pilot cirect vacum by some sort ot diredtion feed to that small air hole in ventri. allowing vacum to pick up, other wise it will by-pass it and cause a faulse reading , in my head anyways.
