don't know if i'm just being thick  but as i thought and as stated in this thread

viewtopic.php?f=37&t=30426

all imports have an engine number of 1WG
so why do we think mark's tj has a different/earlier engine if it says 1WG like everyone else's

in another thread mark states

" I have found the chassis is 3TJ but the engine is bits of 3TJ but the block is something like a 1WG that's not supposed to fit in the frame."

again if their all stamped 1WG how do we know it's the wrong engine
we need pics of the engine to identify it or we don't know which setting to use and all he's going do is waste time chasing his tail

we went of the fact that the engine has additional brackets that run down to the mounts of the engine from the frame mounts, as they would be lower on the 3en engine. It's doubtful it's a 3tj engine as the the mounting holes would be in the correct place!
though i agree, pics would help!

Isn't the 3tj motor the only one to have the mounts in the heads though?

The others were cradled instead???

 Just typed a whole page that failed to update aghhhh!
I know this

Head is 1wg with 3tj carbs and manifold rubbers
Crank cases are 1wg
Water pump and water fixings on back of block are 3tj
Thermostat housesing is 3tj
Cdi is 3tj

The only things that are def 1wg are crank cases and head.

All of the above has been confirmed by Fowlers .

My computer has been down and I cannot post pics but can send pics to known email addresses via my iPhone.

Bendy has a set of pictures I sent him and his words were " it should not fit but somehow someone has managed to fit a 1wg engine into 3tj frame!"

It goes like a rocket once off very low revs and my one go at testing for restriction revved to 16k in 3rd ( I shit myself!)
Hope this helps a bit?

My 3EN2 used to 'boil over' sometimes. Found it was due to air in the coolant system, expanding when hot and causing coolant level to rise. I flushed and refilled the system and the problem went away.

thanks for the pics bendy a godsend for the hard of thinking

and nice one Mr Yamaha for keeping it simple ;)
so it's an fzr400 1WG engine in a 3tj
and not the fzr400 3tj - 1WG engine
shall we all chip in and send Mr yam a full set of punches with all 26 letters of the alphabet and 10 numbers

Tried my thing with the rad cap and silicone sealant ( put a bead of it around the old cap and let it set overnight) no difference. The overheating happens when the temp gauge arrow is over the screw on the meter, I could hear it boiling in the engine but the fan had still not started! Flicked my manual switch and boiling stopped after a few seconds and was much cooler in a couple of minutes.

Two things strike me as strange:-

1 Even with the boiling the fan does not come on straight away
2 Is the temp gauge reading correctly?

I know it may seem impossible but could the new fan sensor also be faulty?
As long as I put the switch on in time everything is ok and I loose no water so tomorrow I am going to get the variable setting fan switch and use that. I am unsure if to put the thermostat back in when I do it ??

Lastly the new coolent is red and the original green which now mixed looks a horrible brown! I am undecided whether to flush it all out again but coolant costs and I think I am being vain!!!
