I found an ideal upgrade from the nc30

Hi Guys,
I have an nc30, fzr400, gsxr750 and 2004 R1 at the moment and have ridden a lots of bikes since retiring my nc30 from the road to the track.

This weekend by chance my 2004 r1 failed with the clutch breaking into a 100 pieces on the 1st session of my trackday at silverstone. Anyway my old man turns up and offers to lend me his 2000 model r1 which I used for the last 3 sessions of the day and all I can say is WOW this bike emulates the same handling characteristics as the nc30 but with so much more power. I cant believe how at home I felt on this bike and even feel tempted to chop my 04 for a 00.

I've always complained with every bike I've ridden that nothing has come close the NC until now.

So if you are thinking of upgrading your nc and want something you will feel at home on then I'd definately 100% recommend the r1.

Almost tempting...I'm not sure what my insurance company would say though

I did think about them though before I got the NC, as you can pick them up for less than an R6 and they do seem a lot of fun. But was it too quick for the road? I had a regeared CBR600 which went from 0-60 in...Ooops there's a corner! I didn't like that at all.
Just a quick look on the trader and there are a few in the 3-4k bracket, would you trust these? Has your dad any issues with his one so far?

no issues as such but after a while the front brake if not well looked after becomes dangerously weak but that can be said for most bikes of that age.

the 1000cc bikes are really good when you can get them to stretch there legs but if you are riding around town all the time then you may find it a frustrating bike to own as you wont be able to rev it.

I've had a play on my friends CBR1000 RR8 and it's an awesome piece of kit, i'd love to have a go on the track with it, as a town bike it's dire, the fan comes on all the while unless your driving and it has far to much power :D

Who'd buy one for town use anyways :)

a perfect replacement for the NC30, is that possible.
i have a ZX-6 for the past month and have found its not an ideal replacement.
if only the made a 600 V4.........

A perfect replacement for the NC30 is an NC35 IMO; to better that, Honda would have to bring out another V4 gear driven bike, only lighter and with a few more ponies!
The R1 is a very good bike indeed, but it's no V4 400!

Part of the fun of the 400's is that you can thrape the arse off them, try that on an R1 and when it goes wrong it'll go wrong in a big way.

That pretty much sums it up! :)

I've driven loads of bikes that have had better characteristics than the VFR, but I still ride the VFR as I love it for what it is.

who's gonna be the first to fit parts off this to their NC24/30/35 then? :D

I really think that the next step after an NC30 is a CBR600RR. I've not ridden the new shaped one, but the RR5 gave a similar feel to the NC. Holds a line well, gives lots of feel as to what's happening underneath you and you can almost safely open the throttle mid-corner and it's not gonna spit you off. Now if I tried to ride my 750 like I did the 600 I'd be on my ass very quickly, but I doubt that it's good enough for me to go into the 600 market. You know what they say about power corrupting and all that

. After the GSX-R goes I think a recent 'Blade is what I'll go for. I'm hoping to find the RR7 HRC 'Blade but we'll see how the money is come the time of buying, which will be next year sometime (when I'm able to ride a bike again)

a 2000 R1 is about as close to the NC30 as is a burger to a salad - they both have 2 wheels.
The R1 is a bullet compared to the NC30 and doesnt suffer hamfisted riders either unlike the later models.
Not so sure about the RR5 comparison although you are right about the crack it open remark - its shite and certainly wont spin up unless you are either
A - using the oe dunlop 218's and running the bike in on a dry sunny warm day (get more grip from the rims)
B - above 10k when you crack it open as it sure moves sharpish over 9k - fook all below that unlike the 30

Closest thing to a NC30 upgrade is - you guessed it, the RC30 - and you gareth should know that too. :D
