chain adjustment

Hi all, prob the lamest question ever posed on the gb forum but.....how do you adjust the chain on an NC30 as i was riding back from cadwell on saturday it was slapping around like mad but then i had a look when i got home and decided to leave it to another day lol questions as follows...

1. can you only do it using the tool thingys on e-bay? or can i do it tapping it round with a screwdriver type device (not best practice i know)

2. i take it you slacken the wheel nut then turn the notched ring but is it posible to do it on a padock stand that goes in the axel...will this make it more difficult to adjust?

ps: was it any one on the forum i saw there (saturday)? an f reg with a twin stack exhaust parked next to another nc

You can do it with a drift but you will ruin it after a while get the proper tool off ebay it's worth it and it is easier to adjust on the paddock because the bike should be upright anyway really. Hope this helps!

FWIW I found it cheaper to buy the tool from david silver spares than from ebay when I got mine (8 pounds IIRC), worth finding out before you search ebay.

Yes you can do it with a screwdriver etc. Loosen the pinch bolt on the top and then turn it to take up the slack.

Make sure to check the chain slack with somone on the bike as if you set it on the tight side on a stand, when somone's on it it can get too tight.

Cool thanks so you dont need to undo either of the big nuts on either side of the wheel then? just the pinch bolt?
sorry if i sound daft with these questions, I do knowwhich way to hold a spanner and could prob work it out quickly but i see my bike maximum of 1 weekend a month so if there is a problem i like to know exactly how to fix it before i get back to it so fixing doesnt eat into riding time lol

yeah just slacken the pinch bolt,just be careful that if you use a screwdriver you dont mangle the notches on the bearer holder. :D

NO you dont need to undo the big bolts, just the 17mm pinch bolt, then go counter-clockwise to loosen it

deglangaelic is spot on but i think he means counter clockwise to tighten chain not loosen
