Emergency Stop - the Back end Weaves side to side -whats up?

Mine has no static sag, its a nc29 with the 600 upgrade(one of yours graeme that i got off Billy). Its on its lowest setting at 1. Seems fine on the track but a little uncomfortable on the road. Is it the spring that needs changing on it to sort this so i can have some static sag or does it need a service? Mine does weave a little but only when very hard on the brakes!

NO!!!!!!!! If you lock the rear wheel, ride it out. Letting the rear wheel roll again can be hazardous. If the wheels are out of line with each other, the bike will snap back, possibly causing a high side.

That is what I tend to do if i need to stop in a hurry, but that is what feels natural as i don't mind the back end sliding in one direction or the other, as long as there is no weave :)
Surely if you realease slowly and evenly the wheel will move back into line smoothly?

But i never thought about the highside thing?? When I was learning to ride my instructor always said that if the rear wheel locks up to release and reapply, like a car with no ABS (like mine lol). Although this was on a little 125 as im not old enough to do DAS and the back end never came out of line.

So the quickest way to stop once the wheel has begun to slide do you think would just be let the back slide a little and apply more front?? I think that is what i have done in the past, but when you gotta stop in a hurry i find instinct takes over and i get the damn thing stopped somehow!! lol

i know what you are saying mate, but he's talking about this in a straightline emergency stop situation. granted, if its well sideways, it could spit you off, but i would have thought if you were sideways enough for that to be a worry, it would be obvious what was happening, and there would have been no reason to ask what the "weaving" was on a forum.

Sorry to take this thread off topic...

If you have to make a "panic" stop, the most effective way to stop a motorcycle is to use both brakes at maximum braking without locking either wheel. Now this takes practice. Lots of it. The technique is to gradually and firmly squeeze the front lever while at the same time pressing on the rear brake pedal. As weight transfers to the front tire, more braking force can be applied. At the same time, you are losing available traction at the rear wheel, so you may need to ease up on the pedal. Also remember to look up and forward, where you want to go, not at what you are trying to avoid.

Now if you lock the front wheel, immediately release the lever and re-apply. If you lock the rear on pavement (or any surface with good traction), ride it out. If you are on dirt, you can release and re-apply.

Now the weave... if the bike is weaving under braking and it isn't the tire locking up, you might have a problem in the brakes/tires/wheels/bearings. It is hard to say without acutally looking at the bike. Is there any pulsing? If it is just a weave, I would check the bearings first.
