41mm Rear rider sag - Leave it as it is?
I see most sites recommend 35mm as a good figure for the rear sag, I've measured mine tonight and it's about 41-42mm (mate has trouble with the tape measure!) I've got about 8mm static.
This is a 1989 bike with 24Km and the original shock with the preload wound up to 6 (although it looks like there may be a 7 setting on it?!) Anyway, I'm probably about 95Kg with all the kit on and my fat frame
, previous owner had modified something to jack the back up already, so I know it sits slightly higher than standard anyway.
My question is, is it worth doing anything about it, or can I get away with 42mm? I'm a new rider so will not get anywhere near the limits of the bike for the foreseeable future, so I'm pondering whether to just leave it alone?
I'm planning on getting the Rick O front fork rebuild kit (for the K-Type forks), will this have any effect on the rear sag figure? Would it make it worse?
Finally, if it needs sorting, can I just get a slightly stiffer spring?
Thanks all

At the minute, you are stuck with it. When it gets annoying you can get a spring @ £50 ish and then you'll find out the damping it tired too...and need to rebuild it.
Your best bet is a later shock as with the remote res it resists fading much longer than your shock.
Or..save a few quid..and get a proper shock when you get the forks sorted too.

How do you adjust the early type rear shock?

It has a stepped collar on it for preload - that are pretty much all set to maximum. It also has a rebound screw on the bottom of the shock like all the others.

I didn't think the early shock had any rebound adjustment? Cool if it has- no idea how to set it up though!?
I also couldn't see how to turn the preload collar- do you need a specific c-spanner?

It's the same C-spanner for adjusting the chain (if you have it). Labelled number 5 in this pic:jetblack wrote:I didn't think the early shock had any rebound adjustment? Cool if it has- no idea how to set it up though!?

The outer tooth does the chain, the inner tooth fits into the shock collar and away you go. Easier with the seat fairing off.

Thanks Gents, looks like I'll live with it for the time being then! I'm also missing the C Spanner from my toolkit by the way.
