Headlight swap from twin to OEM
Ok, as above, basically ive bought a CB400SF with streetfighter style headlights and as much as they dont really bother me greatly, id like to return the bike to a bit more factory look with the single lamp at the front.
Now im a complete n00bie when it comes to bikes so i dont know if the conversion is a simple enough job, although the wiring doesnt really bother me as im decent in that dept, well unless its a million wires lol
But would the same brackets i have do the OEM lamp or need to swap brackets and all?
Is it a fiddly ballix or handy enough overall basically? Also on the off chance, anyone fancy a swap lol?!
Thanks, Gary

Those are the original brackets so with any luck at all you just need to get an original light and fit it.
What is fun is wedging the loom back in there. I have a cb-1 manual and it shows a diagram of how everything fits. Maybe someone has the SF Manual to share? If it helps th CB-1 one is here:

Re: Headlight swap from twin to OEM
just as amorti said you've got the standard mounts and a OEM light will bolt straight on there. All the wires etc will fit in behind the OEM light a lot easier than whatever way they've been placed with the twin lights. It should just be the standard unclip the twin headlights and clip in the new light style mount.
Welcome to the forum, had seen that SF on Gumtree the other week, nice little Version S, not too may of them around and looks to be a clean example. Brembo brakes, nice! Will keep an eye out for you if you're in the Belfast area. I live in Newtownards and commute to Belfast.

Re: Headlight swap from twin to OEM
Good lads, thanks for that. Hopefully it shouldnt be too much of a pain then
Just need to find a decent replacement now as im a bit worried about buying some jipe chinese ebay special
No big rush to swap it, but would like to get it a bit more factory over time :)
Bodhi, you may even see me floating about scumville, sorry, i mean Ards
Born and inbred there myself originally for nearly 29 years and just moved up to Belfast recently, but still down to see a mate of faja. Have a bike yourself or just looking? Still debating whether this is definitely a Version S or not. A lot of the mechanical side of things say yes to me, but few wee silly cosmetic things make me doubt it, so not sure. But regardless even if not, its still a lovely wee bike and not many like it about here, so im chuffed either way
Just need to get her MOT'd now

Ah good stuff. I reckon it's definitely a Version S dude. You've got the Version R/S exhaust and Rearsets on there, the newer style engine which was in the Version R/S, and the rear section of your bike, the plastics are slightly different to mine, so that would lead me to believe it's definitely the Version S, that and the Brembo's are the massive giveaway in my understanding of it all.
I have a 1995 Version R myself, although it was moded before leaving Japan and doesn't have the square headlight/cowl, also the tank and plastics are all off a non Version R model, but I like them anyway, one of the nicest colours in my opinion, the sort of purply blue and silver combo.
Hope you get yours through the MOT ok, doubt it'll have any issues.

I'm sure I've got an old single headlight in the garage somewhere... although it may have a little surface rust.
If you're interested I can dig it out and send you photos... if I can find it

Going to have a look for this tomorrow... it'll definitely fit as it's the original headlight from my Super Four.

Calling DaddyC... found it. There's a bit of surface rust on the bottom of the light but other than that it's not bad for the age. The lens and the bulb are good and as far as I can tell it's the original light from the Super Four (it was when I bought it). Could do with a clean up!
