Honda VFR NC24 turns over but won't fire
Hi, I bought a Honda VFR NC24 a couple of weeks ago and it has been in near daily use since but the past couple of days it just won't fire when i go to start it. It bumps in no time and have cleaned the carbs through has anyone else had a similar problem? thanks mark

You say you cleaned the carbs so you must have had the tank & airbox off, was it doing this before you cleaned them? Maybe you pulled or broke a wire somewhere. Check all the wiring and earthing points, also check the kill switch for loose wires etc. Is it turning over slowly, if so your reg/rec could be knackered, common problem on these bikes. If it is it will kill the battery and maybe even the stator.

Check the electrical system.
Sounds like battery / reg-rec / stator has failed (common problem on these bikes)

Just to confirm, you can bump start the bike and it then runs ok but it will not start using electric start.

Don't bump and ride the bike, it's a bad idea if your electrical system has packed up, you can be doing more harm.
Follow the above guide through to test your electrical system.
Best case scenario. Battery has just had it, no-longer has the ability to crank the bike over and provide sufficient power to run the ignition system, in which case a new battery will fix your problem. The NC24 uses a YB9LB battery. Tayna.co.uk do a cheap VARTA battery which is good.
However, these bikes are known to have charging system problems, the alternator and regulator/recifier unit pack up, especially with an old/bad condition battery.
Might have to replace reg/rec - genny and battery if the worst comes to the worst.. had to do this on a few bikes.
Post back your findings and somebody will adivse on best course of action.

Had similar problems last week, turned out the main 30 amp fuse was corroded up and had melted the plastic on the top of the fuse, wasn't blown though! Quick squirt of contact cleaner and a new fuse sorted it.
