my bike is running too rich?

Post by xivlia »

okay, so i think my bike mey be running a litle too rich. first of all. there is atleast 1 second delay on my throttle..seriosuly if i twist the throttle really fast and let go instantly. i can count before it operates on my bike...secondly there is sometimes white smoke from my exhaust. could be cause of the cold who knows. and last but not least there is a really noticable petrol smell each time i start the bike...is there a way of sorting out the richness of the bike? i havent been to a dyno jet place as i have no license yet. anything i could do at home to sort it out? cheers guys. ;)

From this i gather that it gets started up in the garage and not run properly?

When was the bike last serviced?

White smoke is condensation burning off, most likely from a sitting bike.

When you get your licence, give it a good run and get everyting up to temp, then make a note of faults, if any.

Probably just need a good carb clean and set up.

well the bike starts at one click to the ignition switch..and it idles fine at 1500rpm but there is a noticible amount of petrol smell. i sat on the bike and rode around my garden and it goes fine. jsut the throttle delay is annoying. and even my mum said that i smelled like petrol when she walked past me in the house. so i dont know :\

Float bowls might be leaking, take the carbs off and clean as suggested, ignore poor fuelling when cold, only start adjusting once the full operating temp condition is known, and you'l need to ride it properly to find that out. You might need pilots turned in, float heights adjusted, or float valves changed if they not closing properly - hence the petrol smell. Super rich carbs will start very easily when cold and run very crap when hot.
