would carb balancing decrease tick over revs??
with my carbs, i cant adjust my tickover to below 1.7k because the screw from the tickover adjuster will go down but the throttle will not..
or shouldnt it go that low?
like that?
i know my carbs are not balanced but will that reduce my tickover?
or how can i adjust the throttle position on the carbs to give it more movement??

Re: carb balancing
Hi Dk-Tandy
Not sure if balancing in itself would decrease your tickover but would make more "stable" for want of a better word.
From your other post it sounds like something is stopping the carb linkage from returning to fully closed as normally the base idle adjuster should be what adjusts idle speed and your saying it dosn't touch even @ 1.7k, you should be able to adjust down to approx 1k, not saying thats what base idle is on NC but it should allow it.
I;d suspect your throttle cables are too tight and this is limiting the carbs fully closing, yuo should have some free play on the cables b4 the carbs start to open and possibly the way yurs are adjusted atm is holding the carbs open all the time.
I'd b tempted to remove the cables and see if with no cables connected the base idle adjuster is still the same. I can't think of any other reason apart from something physically jamming the linkage that would cause your problem.

Re: carb balancing
if you have a throttle return cable, try loosening that one off completely then adjust the throttle to its slackest.....pretty much as he said ^^ lol
had a similar issuse with a priviouse bike, turned out to be a blocked pilot with played havok on my idel in 1 carbs diaphrame /slide. even with adjuster as low as it went, it never touched the adjusters bottoming out nip, like in your pic either.

Re: carb balancing
Hi Guys.
I'm dubious that the return cable alone would cause this. I suspect the pull cable is overtight causing the throttle to be slightly open when the throttle grip is "closed"
I suggested removing cables totally so they could be ruled out, as spring on throttle should fully close throttle butterflys when no cables are attached.
If it dosn't i would suspect a mechanical fault (something jamming) but, as the cables have just be changed i would suspect thats where the fault lies.
If disconnecting cables allows throttle butterflys to fully close, i would set base idle @ book value ( guessing 12/1300 rpm without cables fitted using base idle adjuster then refit cables and balance carbs.
Try not to get tooooooooooooooooooooooooo burn't when fitting inlet manifold tap off's ( I know ! ouch )

Re: carb balancing
Do you have some free play in the throttle. In other words can you twist the throttle a tiny bit without it revving the bike. You may just need to slacken it off from the handlebar (top cable coming from the throttle grip) by adjusting the nut.

Re: carb balancing
that picture was taken away from the bike so no cables we're connected. The butterflies do not close fully.
Any idea?
So you thinking it could be pilot jet?
