23 carb issue?

Post by DK-Tandy » Mon Sep 05, 2011 7:58 pm

i fitted a new choke and throttle cable and tinkered with the carbs

Put everything back together and it ticks over at 5k revs. I tried adjusting the idle speed but the pin it turns is not touching the pad which turns the disc thing which the throttle cable sits in.

Any ideas on how i can fix it?

You have im afraid re-assembled the parts in the wrong order. There is no shame in it but if you look you will see the problem i hope. I suggest the cams have been fitted preloaded and thats why the idle is high. Object here is to assure the throttle stop is touching the screw end ok.

So I've put the cable on the wrong side??

I Can't have because when you pull the throttle it does rev higher. So the cable is fitted ok. It may be at my handlebar, ill check it out later.

So technically if I remove the carbs it should reset itself.

I did notice that when I started it last night it ticked over lumpy at 1.5k recap then it sounded like a cylinder kicked in and revved up to high revs..

i took the carbs off again..
as in the 2nd picture, you can see where the alen key is that there is gap, surley the top part which moves with the throttle should be resting on the metal part below?

alos what does that blue screw actually do??

Yes it should hit the stop.

Perhaprs you have let some dirt in so that it's not closing properly? Did you have the discs in the carbs off? It's probably possible to re-centre them wrong. Is the pull cable adjusted too tight?

no never touched disc's in carbs. How do i recentre them? They sit in the carbs at a slight angle. And when the cable is fitted. There is a few mm in slack so its not the cable.

It first occured when i put the choke on. The reason i removed it originally was because it stuck. When i pulled the choke it revved high and never dropped.

Any idea's i need it done by tonight :(

i put it all together and took it for a spin around the block..

it ticks over at aroun d 1.5/1.6k but it cant be lowered because the throttle stop for the carbs doesnt rest properly on the adjusted screw...

and it sounds 'tick' ish.. which i thought to be blowing exhaust but its not.. :(
i hope it aint nothing to do with top end :(

Hi,

Without wishing to state the obvious you need to get the throttle stop problem sorted as atm you have no base idle adjustment, is something (like the spring) jamming the throttle movement,

No,

pilot jet will have no effect on throttle linkage failing to close.
