Rhory, I would say: yes! you need the vacuum guage to balance and set the carbs perfect. Easy to do.
Get a set from carbtune. He may not far from where you are (in belfast).

Got this done today and they were off but not majorly and after about an hour we had them balanced up to close to perfection, off the idle is very good now.
It's not having what you want but wanting what you've got....Loud ,Proud and Modified ....

This was on my bog stock vfr not the castrol or grey/black

Plus they total cost gets cheaper everytime you use them, they easily pay for themselves with 2 balances to what you'd pay for a company to do it.
