Aero 400 project

Post by Rodgerz »

Hi folks,I have recently taken ownership of a cbr 400 aero, I know most think it's a dog but I'm not interested in opinions I just need advice please.
I have looked for hours but can't find a definitive answer regarding suspension/chassis upgrades for this bike, it is my understanding that a cbr600f shock will fit but I would like to possibly swap the swinger to get a fatter wheel up it's arse and has anyone upgraded or swapped the front end? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the dimensions of 92-99 CBR 900 yokes, if the bearing part numbers match and stem length is the same as shown, they are lightyears ahead of what you have and a worthwhile leapfrog over nc23/9 parts, too.

The frame looks the same as the Triarm, in which case you could fit a Triarm swingarm (linkage compatibility unknown) and Gullarm rear wheel.

It's all a bit guess-wroky though, since as you know the Aero was not very popular / common in the UK, as they weren't much cheaper to buy than the Triarm at the time when all the imports were coming over.

The thought about the tri-arm did cross my mind but I was hoping there was someone out there who had done such a conversion, I may just have to get hold of a tri-arm swinger and try it

Got to be worth the attempt.

Alternatively I have a spare '29 arm in really nice condition you might try.

Anywhere near Portsmouth?

I'm up in sunny Scotland mate, il get the old arm measured this weekend and asses my options, I'm not too hopeful really but like you said it's worth a try, I'm more worried about the shock as I'm a big guy and the shock is the original lol
