No lights on/off NC29

Post by Davez29 »

Hi, just a quick question.

My bike has a left hand switch gear with no on/off for the lights. It looks in every other aspect the same as other NC29s I have seen but there is only a blanking plate where the switch would be, not even any engravings that would suggest that the switch has been blanked and does look that way on purpose. The lights are of course permanently on. I was thinking perhaps the bike had come via some Euro country where lights have to be permanently on.

Has anyone else got that type of switch?

Only the newer model 29s got them I believe...the RVF is the same no option to turn the lights out.

Ok, thanks tanuki if your right i got something to add when peeps talk about it. I was unsure due to the fact that most people seem to give a curled up nose effect when they realise that there's no switch and then give a nodding wink to explain that they know by that it must be after market due to a crash as bikes always have an on/off switch.

"Only the newer model 29s got them"

so your CBR125 thats only been out for 3yrs is brand spanking new compared to our 15-17yr old bikes....

if having no ON/OFF switch bugs you, why not buy a switch gear that does and wire it in. doubt it would be too hard.
i am glad that my bike has the switches, before i had the HIDs fitted; there was no way i could start the bike with even the dips on! too much draw off the battery.

then there is something wrong with your bike...

My mistake on the switch, it seems totally random to weather your NC29 has one or not I have owned at least 3 and only one of those which happened to be a 99 model had the switch.

None of my bikes have had issues starting with the lights on and TBH why care all you do is switch them on anyway..unles you ride with your light off...and well thats your call if you want to make yourself a little bit harder to see.

It doesn't bug that there is no switch, just wondering why there are on some models but not my bike and I suppose I was wondering about those cold dark days when you have to start with twin beams glaring in the dark, thought it may put a drain on the system as I was always taught to turn on only ignition until its fired up, but I suppose that's progress.

"then there is something wrong with your bike..."
>> nothing was wrong with it.... it had 2 x 100/80W bulbs fitted. they drew too much off the battery on dip for the bike to start up. always had to turn lights off to start bike, always switched them off before i turned the ignition key off (never use kill switch unless in emergency!). even bike shop said to make the Reg/Rec last a bit longer to always switch off lights before the engine.

Auto leky boys ran a test; with the old (100/80s, OEM rear lights) bulbs on full beam, indicators on and brake light eg waiting to turn. the alternator was not putting a charge to the battery, it was ALL going out to the bike!
Thats what made me head down the LED route. lessen the load on the alternator
